Out Experiences about the Penang restaurant and street foods

The street food of Penang represents a melting pot of cultures and influences. Chinese, Malay, Indian, Peranakan, Thai and Western flavors come together in incredible hawker stalls throughout the city. Some of my favorite street food dishes we tried included:
  • Char kway teow - flat rice noodles fried with shrimp, Chinese sausage, egg, bean sprouts and chilies. The wok aromas were mouthwatering.
  • Assam laksa - a sour and spicy fish-based broth with noodles, onions, pineapple, cucumber and mint. Such unique flavors! 😋
  • Satay - we tried chicken, beef, and fish satay grilled over a coconut charcoal fire and paired with a rich peanut sauce.
  • Nasi lemak - coconut rice served with crispy anchovies, roasted peanuts, cucumber, and a spicy sambal sauce. The perfect breakfast.
  • Roti canai - a flaky flatbread served with a curry dip. It was so tasty pulling apart the warm freshly made roti.
The restaurant cuisine in Georgetown represents a fusion of East and West. We enjoyed meals that blended Malaysian cuisine with Western flair. Some fusion dishes we tried included:
  • Laksa spaghetti - al dente noodles in a creamy curry laksa broth with tofu puffs and cockles.
  • Char kway teow pizza - flat rice noodles, sausage, bean sprouts and eggs atop a crispy pizza crust.
  • Beef rendang pasta - tender beef cooked in a spicy coconut curry sauce tossed with fusilli.
  • Nasi goreng burrito - Malaysian fried rice stuffed into a soft tortilla with achar pickles and satay sauce.
  • Roti jala crepes - lacy buttery crepes served with a creamy chicken curry dipping sauce.
The culinary creativity across Penang was amazing. Every meal introduced us to new flavors and combinations that highlighted the diversity of this foodie destination.
