Our 1 week in Penang

Day 1 - Arrival in Penang We arrived in Penang after a short flight from Kuala Lumpur. As we exited the airport, we were greeted by the warm tropical weather and headed straight to our hotel to check in. After freshening up, we took a walk around Georgetown and admired the street art and colorful buildings. For dinner, we made our way to Gurney Drive to try the famous Penang street food. The aromas of grilled meats, noodles, and curries drew us in. We tried char kway teow,Penang laksa, and satay - such amazing flavors!

Day 2 - Penang Hill & Batu Ferringhi In the morning we took the funicular train up to Penang Hill to see the spectacular views of Georgetown and beyond. The breeze felt nice and cool compared to the humidity down below. After enjoying nature, we headed to Batu Ferringhi beach on the north coast of the island. We relaxed on the soft sand, swam in the clear water, and watched the sunset. On the way back, we stopped at a roadside stall for tasty assam laksa. The tangy and spicy broth with noodles hit the spot after a long day.

Day 3 - Explore Georgetown Georgetown is a foodie's paradise, so we set out early to start sampling street food for breakfast. At a coffee shop, we tried nasi lemak and kaya toast. We walked off the calories by visiting the Pinang Peranakan Mansion and Khoo Kongsi clan house to see the ornate fusion architecture. In the afternoon we visited the colorful temples before going on a street art photo walk. Penang has amazing street murals everywhere you look. We also did some souvenir shopping at the bazaar.

Day 4 - National Park & Batik Factory Today we took a trip out to Penang National Park to go hiking and enjoy nature. We saw interesting plants and even some monkeys! After working up an appetite we headed to Balik Pulau for a delicious lunch at a Malay restaurant. In the afternoon we visited the Penang Batik Factory to learn about the traditional art of batik printing. The colors and designs were beautiful.

Day 5 - Cooking Class & Trishaw Ride We started the day with a cooking class to learn how to make some Peranakan dishes. It was fun shopping at the wet market for fresh ingredients. After getting hands-on in the kitchen, we got to enjoy eating the results for lunch - such amazing flavors! In the afternoon we experienced a trishaw ride through the heritage area of Georgetown. It was relaxing pedaling through the city streets and seeing the architecture.

Day 6 - Entopia & Botanical Gardens We spent today immersed in nature. We headed out to Entopia, Penang's butterfly and reptile zoo. We saw so many unique exotic species. Then we explored the Penang Botanic Gardens, with lush greenery and trees hundreds of years old. On the way back to Georgetown, we stopped at Kek Lok Si, an ornate Chinese Buddhist temple complex perched on a hill. The views were breathtaking.

Day 7 - Departure On our last day we had free time in the morning before our afternoon flight. We headed to Little India near Georgetown and enjoyed roti canai for breakfast. We did some final souvenir shopping and grabbed lunch at a hawker stall before it was time to head to the airport. Our week in Penang flew by, filled with amazing food, interesting sights, and lots of fun!
