Ohel Moshe Synagogue in Shanghai

I know that Ohel Moshe Synagogue in Shanghai was closed for renovations beginning in 1/07. Does anyone know if it is now or soon-to-be re-opened?

Do a Google search. I think they have a web site.

You might want to ask Rabbi Greenberg of Chabad Shanghai. Check their website (www.chinajewish.org/ ) and there is also a reference to Jewish tour of Shanghai. (www.shanghai-jews.com )

I was there in April and it looked as if they had a lot of work remaining.

This would be better as a reply to the reposting, for those who read it.

We were there a few years ago, and had a marvelous tour of the area with Mr. Wang. He was 83 years old at the time, so I don't know if he is around anymore.

htucoord:

we were there along with EKSCRUNCHY in April...I agree...looked as though a years worth of work or more to this untrained eye.

Nevertheless, we walked through the former ghetto's streets to try to get a feel for what it must have been during the 30's and 40's...and the pretty little park nearby offers a small plaque in commemoration of the ghetto. Very nice gesture.

I fully agree with W9...Chabad will give you detailed info.(They now have more than 1800 locations world-wide. Amazing organization.)
