Oh No! Renovation scheduled during our trip
Just found out that Tandjung Sari is starting reno's mid Oct. and we have the reservations in the twin room suite. They plan to start with the family bungalow and I was hoping to get some advice on how close these two bungalows are to each other. I am thinking of cancelling with the hotel - the noise is a big concern as we plan to spend most of the time in Sanur around the pool.

Hi Rivet. Tandjung Sari will only start the renovation on 1st November and on early stage (first month) it will not affect much on Twin Bungalow. When is your holiday dates again? They can provide layout for the renovation if you request them to. Hope this helps.
cheers,
cheers,

Hi Novi.. .when I emailed Tandjung Sari they said the renovations would be starting mid Nov. I don't know if there is such a thing as "Island time" in Bali but the hotel staff seemed pretty firm on those dates so I am not hopeful of a delay than would allow us to enjoy a quiet stay.
The plan is to start with the family bungalow and that is why I was ONLY able to book the twin ....the family bungalow would not be available for our dates in early Nov. In a subsequent email I asked for a layout of the property and it looks like the family bungalow is near the beach and twin bungalow behind, a large space separating them.
At the same time, or at least sometime over the next 8 months, a new building will go up between those two existing bungalows in that free space. Another concern is that the kitchen is moving to another building. I'm a little apprehensive about temporary kitchens since we ate at a pizza place during a reno and ended up with red electrical wire bits as an extra topping.
Of course it is disappointing because the twin room is a more reasonable approach than booking two separate rooms and there is no guarantee of more comfort , less noise anyway. The last time I was in Bali, in 1985, David Bowie was staying at Tandjung Sari or at least that was the rumor and it has remained a curiosity ever since. I guess we will wander to have a look.
The next choice is La Taverna, unless anyone knows of other charming reasonable hotels in the Sanur area. Haven't heard back but keeping my fingers crossed.

We stayed at La Taverna last November and although it didn't register at the time , reading your post made me realise that they were carrying out renovations there then. Some of the bungalows were being redone and the restaurant was completely shrouded in canvas. It only opened on our last night there. Until then we ate in the restaurant right alongside the beach. The renovations didn't inconvenience me in the slightest

Thanks for the positive perspective Frances. Did you enjoy La Taverna?
What has me the most worried about Tandjung Sari is the new building going up and the potential banging and earth moving , which is a bit different than say...refreshing the paint or putting in some new plumbing fixtures. The noise is the issue.
Oops Novi...I realized that I wrote the wrong date. The renovations at TS are scheduled for mid Oct. , not mid Nov. If the first stages were only fixing up the family bungalow, which is no problem.

Yes we did enjoy La Taverna. It was our first trip to Bali and had no idea what we wanted to see so we decided to book three nights in Sanur and then move on from there. We liked it so much we never moved on and ended up spending a week in La Taverna! The accomodation was sweet-and we were in the most basic. It was quiet. I loved the laid- back feeling walking down the gardens to breakfast and the beach. The staff were friendly. It was hot -too hot at times but that is not the fault of the hotel and there were lots of restaurants in Sanur.
We took trips out and about but didn't reach the very northern part of the island.
We saw Julia Roberts in Eat Sleep Pray last weekend and I began to think I'd quite like to go back to Bali....

Not for long Bob....the new building is going up behind.
In my latest email from the hotel, it sounds as though Tandjung Sari will be moving material to get ready for the new building, but no big earth moving equipment scheduled during our stay.
They only have the twin bungalow available for our selected dates as the family bungalow is being refreshed....the twin is the one currently behind the family bungalow but the new building is going between these two. My guess is that the process wouldn't actually be that disruptive, no major banging and maybe the reno would be interesting to watch for a few days?
Frances I know what you mean about the movie. I took my youngest daughter and after wards she was even more excited about the upcoming trip. It sounds like La Taverna would be just fine too.
Still trying to decide between Tandjung Sari and La Taverna
