I'll be interested to hear how you like the JW and whether you get any upgrades. We are also Plat, and after Bob's review of the Renaissance, we are considering the JW.

I'm sure JW will at least give you club if not a huge room too.

Take bob for steak at jw's steakhouse---probably best in bkk---$$$$$

Merry merry

Bob

For sure we get club usage. I've already been emailed about checking into the hotel in the club lounge rather than just in the lobby. Will post when we've got our room!

We are in a "club room" one floor above the lounge. Very small! I wonder what a "regular room" is, sizewise. But I say that coming from a large 2 bedroom apartment. Makes me realize why I much prefer the serviced apartment idea over a hotel room.

We do have a nicer view now. And we have Fox News for a couple of days. The lounge will be a very nice plus, as usual. Free breakfast, dinner finger foods, etc.

We're really enjoying the executive lounge here. I have to say that this is very possibly the nicest one I have experienced. You can make a meal of the hot and cold items at dinner time. I'm sure breakfast will be very nice as well. We are enjoying the outside terrace of the lounge. Love the fresh air so much better than the AC in our small room. Bangkok temps have been in the 60s at night!

Next test will be the comfort of the bed. Column had great mattresses and bedding.

Not sure if it applies to Marriott but the club room in some hotels are the same size as the regular room - its just that these rooms are located on the club floor or close by.

Bill, I agree. That, plus free wifi.

The lounge is absolutely superior though, so we'll stay! . besides, tonight and tomorrow night get me to platinum level for yet another year!

Breakfast in the lounge gets a thumbs up.

I mentioned bed and bedding earlier. Also a thumbs up.

Why would anyone go from Chicago to Bangkok and continue to watch FOX news? If all you wanted was a mild temperature you could have gone to south Florida which would have resulted in a massive savings in jumbo jet carbon exhaust gases. And don't forget, FOX news in Miami too.

Jobin, I'm not going to discuss politics with you. I find your post a bit off the wall.

Carol,

Protestors will block of Paholyothin Road by the Din Dang intersection as well as the toll way going in and out of Bangkok for the Northern route today (this afternoon). Expect heavy traffic!

Thanks for that info hanuman. We aren't travelling on the toll roads today, just staying put until we leave for Phuket on Monday. If you hear anything about road blockages on MONDAY, I would appreciate hearing about it.

The road and toll way closure will last until at least tomorrow. Travel to Don Muang airport will be difficult! Will let you know if I hear anything about Monday.

We don't see anything along Sukhumvit. Is it a very large group?

Not a big group, in the thousands only. Over now but things are heating up on other front.

As they say on Sports Center- Come on Man! They are many on this forum that would love to jump on a plane and head to Bangkok- enough to fill that jumbo jet! As far as FOX news goes- I like to watch CNN while I'm in Asia because it gives a world perspective unlike what we get in the states.

Hanuman, can you recommend a source for up to the minute news? Like I said, we haven't seen anything in Sukhumvit other than the big demonstration a week or so ago.

BillT much if not most of the time we can only get CNN when travelling in Asia and Europe. Finding Fox is a breath of fresh air, and keeps us up on news at home.
