Off on a Bangkok holiday once again!
I am currently sitting in the global first class lounge at Ohare, waiting to board a flight to FRA and then on to BKK on a TG A380 from FRA. Really ready for the 80 degree temps instead of the 15 and snow in Illinois.
My live reports this time will be mostly hotel reviews as we are trying out new places. Our favorite home away from home in Bangkok has raised its prices to ridiculous levels for what you get.......so no Adelphi Suites on soi 8 this time. We start out on soi 16 at an apartment at Column. This is the building that houses Long Table restaurant, but apartments are on floors above the restaurant. I had a look in October. Very nice!
Son tells me there are small demonstrations everyday... one on Sukhumvut on the day we arrive.
Stay tuned.

Weather in Bangkok is great right now Carol, a sort of a "cold" spell at the moment.
Protest planned are as follow:
19th December - women protesters will be marching to the PM's house.
20th December - protest march from the democracy monument to Silom.
22nd December - city wide protest.
For Sukhumvit you might see some demonstration on the 22nd but should be peaceful.

Hello from Frankfurt. Will board Thai A380 in a few hours. Right now, lounge time. Hubby is napping in a sleeping room here, and DS will arrive here in a couple of hours on his flt that took him to AMS first.
Hanuman, thx for the info on upcoming protests. Hopefully all is peaceful.

Benita, we'll be off to Phuket for the new year. We are in Bangkok until 30th and then return from Phuket on the 2nd.
We are checked in at Column on soi 16 Sukhumvit. I got upgraded to a big two bedroom 2 bath apartment. So far we like it a lot. We shall see if the location works for us. Off to the Foodland grocery store right next door.

The Foodland has a lunch counter. Reputed to have just about the best breakfast pancakes. Will have to try them. Breakfast is included in the apt rate but may just have to go next door too!

Protesters are making a lot of noise on the area of Asok and Sukhumvit intersection. No whistles, just bull horns. Not a huge group. The view from the balcony doesn't give us a complete picture. Looks like traffic will be effected.
