New Year Holiday, Feb.2008

What are your thoughts about visiting Hong Kong, Vietnam, Siem Reap and Bangkok in January prior to the New Year holiday? We first considered arriving Hanoi Feb 14, after the holiday. Taking another look at our plan we thought we would arrive Hanoi January 17. We are now planning to fly Bangkok/Hong Kong on February 7 and staying until the 12th when we return home. While in Hong Kong we plan to go to Macau for a day.

Your thoughts please.

Actually I am concerned with flight availability plus I can no longer get a flight from the US using points in the Feb period. Had not even thought about places being closed during the holiday. Is the holiday celebrated in all of these places?

You'll have better weather in January.

Hong Kong and VN are the two places on your list where there will be the most closures during the new year celebrations.

I'd recommend that you get reservations as soon as possible.

I think availability is a bigger problem than closures. Lots of locals traveling around that time, so hotel rooms can be harder to come by. But if you can, it would be a good time to go.
