I read that article yesterday (they deliver some of the Sunday sections with Saturday's paper when you get home delivery). It was quite interesting and makes me want to go back. I'm sure it's changed a lot since I was there in 2000. For one thing, at least there are now some decent hotels other than the Raffles.

Laurie, I grew up with the NY Times but found I don't have the time to read it and the local paper (and the WSJ) as a Hartford area resident. On line, I have bookmarked the Sunday travel section as it is the best of any newspaper anywhere. The online edition is "delivered" Saturday as well.

well - that's interesting. I though Raffles was in Singapore, but clearly they are now a franchise.

And the worst thing that could happen to Cambodia is a plague of "decent hotels".

The Hotel D'Angkor is owned by Raffles. I think a few decent hotels in Siem Reap is more than welcome. There's nothing wrong with wanting a nice, comfortable place to relax after a hot, dusty and tiring day of sightseeing.

I was so pleased that they highlighted the Hotel de la Paix. Our experience there was just incredible. Obviously, not for everyone, it is high end, but that was the theme of the article.
