Myanmar or Cambodia

My sister and I are going to Thailand for three weeks spending most of it trekking in northern Thailand, visiting Chiang Mai, Chiang Dao and visiting hill tribes. We will also be in Bangkok and in Phuket. The problem we are facing is what to do with the last 5 days. We have tossed around the idea of going to Cambodia to visit Angkor Wat (does anyone know how safe it is), we have also been thinking of going to Myanmar and visiting the coast (again does anyone know how safe it is and places to stay/visit). Also seeking info on must see places in Northern Malaysia. My sister and I will be grateful for any info. Thanks, Glenn

You get one response in another post. I also support the idea of visiting the Angkor. It is well connected by air from many airports in thailand. I think it is pretty safe there.
One option for the coast/beach is Lungawee in Malaysia, you can fly from Phuket to this island, i think 5 days is a bit too much, then you can add some days in Penang as well.
Cannot help further with Myanmar.

Welcome to Asia/

One thing you may want to consider about Burma is how to travel there without supporting the regime. The current military Junta is one of the worst human rights violators in the world. I am not saying you should not go; I am suggesting you look into how to travel there without your money being used by the governments to buy arms to kill ethnic minorities and democratic opposition.
I personally would suggest you try Angkor Wat which is safe during the day and with a group

The temples at Angkor are amazing - unfortunately they are starting to build huge hotels in Seam Reap so you need to go soon. It is very safe but if you want to go organised, there is a fantastic company who can sort out entry passes, guides, accommodation etc. Run by cousins, one lives in Cambodia and is fluent in Khmer. Their web site is www.ssbd.co.uk - tell them Carol & Gary recommended you!!!!!

I was in Cambodiea and Laos with a friend this past August.
In my opinion both are very safe and friendly.
