Here are the last of my Vietnam photos that accompany my April trip report "SE Asia: It's So Hot".

I will next get to my Cambodia Siem Reap photos, followed by the Bangkok and Koh Lanta ones. Thanks for your patience!

dgunbug,
I tried it again and it worked for me....I do have to advance the photos in the slideshow using the arrow in the center right because I have a Mac.
Did anyone else have a problem with this? Thanks for the info.

I'd say only if you're on the Bassac...the ship made it a delightful experience and it was just enough time. Dgunbug had spent more time in Can Tho so she has a better take on that, but I really didn't want to spend more time in the town after we disembarked. The floating market at Cai Rang was the definite highlight, but that took only about one hour. I could've skipped the local industry sites and our walkabout on land for a couple of hours, but sitting on the deck of the charming Bassac and watching the variety of boats and shoreline sights made it all worthwhile. The Bassac's English speaking tour guide, Anh, was the perfect mixture of information and friendliness and the food was excellent. We didn't have any issue with mosquitoes or other bugs either.

Bob - I thought the Mekong was interesting, but if you've been to Tonle Lake or other floating markets, it just wasn't that much different. Of course it was more realistic than the floating market in Thailand, but not as fun as spending the day with Tong. I agree that after an hour it was all the same. What I enjoyed most was the walk through the fruit gardens with our guide who explained the different uses of plants and fruits and who talked about the hardships of his life after the war. The housing and boats were all similar to what you would see in Cambodia or Thailand. I should note that my husband thought it was all very interesting. We did enjoy our walk in Can Tho when we wandered and got lost in a neighborhood that was not on the tourist track. The Vietnamese people were delighted to see us and the mothers all wanted their children to practice speaking English. We heard the typical "hello...where you from...what your name?" from many of them.
Barefoot - the Bassac looked lovely. The local industry sites were tacky, but we enjoyed them as they broke up the drive and the boat ride getting to Can Tho.
