You will find experts on this thread but during our visit we enjoyed the Cammeron Highlands. It was a long trip but the weather was beautiful in March and with a guide/driver, (sorry I forgot his name and #),but is was a long day for the travel was 4.5 hrs.RT but to see the nomadic folks that live near and around the Highlands and then the rea plantations was just wonderful. The cost though was $150 for my wife and I in a private car which is the best way. We did not think much of the Genting Highlands though others may. The Batu Caves take a lot of walking on little steps to see the bats in the cave. I thought it was interesting. My wife thought it was "a non-event".The shopping is plentiful but for quality it is not inexpensive. Less than the Us but not 1/3rd less, maybe 20%.But it is quite an experience. The 6 yr. old may like the Batu Caves and the trade-off may be following you shopping. A tour of the city is o.k. but do a commercial group one for 3-4 hours for $25/person or less and it will be worthwhile.I will leaveit to the experts. We were at the Ritz Carton the first night but it was not up to standard and went to the Sherton-Luxury Collection Club Floor that was special at a few dollars less.

Cosmos World Theme Park at Berjaya Times Sq Shopping Mall should be enjoyed by adults as well as kids - good shopping as well.

Petaling St for China Town

KLCC for its massive shopping mall under the Petronas Towers

Queue in the early morning for free tickts to the viewing bridge at the towers.

The National Museum and Islamic art museum are both worth a visit as is Merdeka Sq with its colonial architecture and cricket square.

A long day trip (2.5 hours each way by bus) would be Malacca, a quaint coastal town with lots of colonial (british and Portuguese) history as well as its great Nonya food. Very compact and east to get around and lots to see. Worth an overnight trip

Hi

I have been to KL a few times on vacation and on business. For shopping you can check out Midvalley mega mall, KLCC Suria or Pavilion. For the youngest daughter it might be fun checking out KL aquarium and the Petrosains in Petronas twin towers. For general sightseeing check out KL tower, Petaling street, Batu caves, Petronas twin towers etc. Here is a KL trip report that I made after a trip in 2006 http://gardkarlsen.com/malaysia_kuala_lumpur.htm . Have a great trip

Regards

lots to do in KL - KL towers, twin towers, merdeka square, old railway station, thean hou temple, bird park and butterfly park, kuala gandah elephant sanctuary - try to get a good book of KL like the Lonely Planet and you will find lots of suggestions, it depends completely on what your interests are.
