Oriental for services and location. Peninsula for value. It also has incredible service. There is debate on this board as to whether the Peninsula is on the right or wrong side of the river. The con of its location is that it is on the residential side of the river - the opposite side of most of the other hotels. The pro is that the view from the Peninsula of the "right" side of the river is spectacular and there is a constant shuttle service offered by the Peninsula back and forth across the river.

Alex -

If you want luxury, Oriental is the only choice. I haven't stayed at the Pen but the Regent is very nice and I like it's location better in relation to other things in the city.

If you're mostly going to be sightseeing, probably staying on the river is best. If you plan on seeing many different things throughout the city and doing some shopping, the Regent would be a better choice.

Lynn
<BR

While Lynn I'm sure is just trying to express her love for the Oriental, which is a beautiful hotel, please don't take her literally. I travel from the US to Bangkok on business for one week every month. To suggest that the Oriental is the only luxurious hotel is ridiculous. There are many. I've stayed at both the Oriental and the Peninsula and can assure you that while different, both are very luxurious. The service at the Peninsula is outstanding, as it is as the Oriental. The Peninsula is a brand new hotel, while the Oriental has a long famous history. Carrie pointed out the other differences accurately. You will be very happy with either choice.

The Oriental while an excellent hotel, is not my preference. I prefer NOT staying on the river. And I never said the Oriental is the only luxurios hotel in town. In my opinion, it is the best bang for the buck if you want an old world, high-end experience combining history, luxury, service, quality, and class. I don't think new hotels can give you that.

We stayed at the Ritz in Singapore and while it was superb, it did not have the comfortable, luxurious feeling we experienced in the Garden Wing at Oriental.

Hey, everybody likes different things!

Lynn
<BR
