We are planning a quick trip to Luang Prabang in March-a side trip to a business trip- Any suggestions for a good value hotel in LP? How about a boat trip from LP? What destination? Is it better to do a day trip or overnight boat trip? Wouldnt mind spending a night away from LP in the countryside but dont know if there is anything worthwhile to do or go to? Thanks.

Take a look at the Apsara. We looked at a room and it seemed a bargain for $75 per night. We stayed at the maison Souvanaphoum. While it was pleasant, it was overpriced at $175 per night.

We just arranged a day trip on the river going to the Silk village and the paper village and another stop. Very pleasant 3 1/2 hours for $20.

I second Andy's Apsara recommendation - we stayed there for 4 nights in February and it was a very good value for LP.

Anybody heard about the MuongLao GuestHouse? Anyfeedback is apprecieated.

Don't know that particular guest house, but they are building lots of guesthouses in LP. They cost anywhere from $20-50.
