Lost passport in Japan

How long does it take to replace a lost passport in Japan. The consulate is closed today, I just need an idea how long it takes, so that I may tell the airline. Thank you in advance.

There should be a duty officer on call who can tell. you. Call again and ask to speak to the consular duty officer.

If the process is standard, we went to the US Embassy in Santiago, Chile when it opened with all, forms downloaded and completed, photos taken at a location recommended on Embassy website. We gave agent our applications and fees around 10am and had our passports around 3pm. Good luck.

This US Embassy Japan website page gives a number to call after hours in emergencies. Lost passports are listed as an emergency. http://japan.usembassy.gov/e/acs/tacs-emergency.html

Wonderful that you found it! You also saved your self around $100. f a one year emergency passport. We had just renewed the ones that were stolen so it was a pricy event.

Icuy,

It was in my recipe folder. I was working on some recipes a few days before and I must have grabbed it by mistake while cleaning my desk. I had it out thinking I would need my passport to fly to Tokyo for a day. I looked everywhere but my recipe folder. I didn't think about looking there until one of my chefs called to ask a question about a recipe, at this point I didn't trust myself and I was feeling stupid, so I pulled the file out of my carry on and there it was.

Thank you
.
