OK, trying once again to post my report here. Two times failed... what is going on here??

Yesterday I ventured down to the river to have a look at what the vendors were offereing, to see if it was any different from what I see in the Siam and Sukhumvit area. It really was no different. I didn't try to negotiate any prices so I don't know if they were higher or not. Since the Oriental and Pen and Shangri-La are nearby, I'd guess you would have to pay more (upscale hotels, falongs have more money,??)

I had an unfortunate "meeting" with the pavement near the Shangri-La entrance. We had a heavy shower and I didn't notice how slippery the sidewalk had become. OUCH!! But it was only a skinned knee, nothing serious. I did, however, get mud on my white cotton shirt and my salmon colored capris. It was embarrassing more than anything. I tried to buy some new duds to put on at Robinsons, but they don't cater to American sz 12 so I had to put up with looking like I'd just worked on my car!! LOL

We did eat at the Face last night, and yes, Bob is right. It now ranks as an even tie for #1 with Bed Supper Club. I could not pick between the two because I love them both, but for very different dining experiences. If you like Thai food, then Face is the place to go for the real thing. It is truly a lovely place!

Today we hope to dine on the river for our last meal in BKK. I know, the food isn't all that great, but I love being on the river, seeing the city all lit up at night. It's really beautiful and peaceful as well.

I don't know if I shall have time to report my activities once again, before we depart tomorrow morning early.

I shall see some of you in BOS very soon. Looking forward to it.

Carol

Have really enjoyed your posts, sorry you had a fall yesterday but glad no serious damage done.

I have read about Face before, when I look at their website there is a couple of restaurants - thai and indian - both sound good. The Indian is listed on the chic website as very hot. Face Bar just does bar bites, did you have to book into a certain part of it?

Flying on Thursday so just making my reservations now.

Many thanks.

Hello again everyone,
I had to get up at 3:45 this morning to get to BKK airport by 5:00. We are now sitting in Tokyo on our layover. The Red Carpet lounge is very nice here.

I'm sure the Sh-la will be contacting me anytime, wanting to negotiate the deal! LOL

Patsey, we did make reservations at the Face ahead of time. We walked right in. The bar there is really unique and lovely. I could see spending time there, just chilling, listing to not-too-loud music and talking with friends over a glass of red wine.

We had our last BKK meal at Via Vai. My guys have raved about this place for months, so I'm glad I got to experience it. It was a nice small Thai place on soi 8, but with an Italian menu. I had a pumpkin soup (my favorite Aussie meal) that did not quite measure up to the soup I get in Sydney.

We had an absolute downpour the last night in the city. Power went out for a short time. We were lucky to find a cab rather than having to wade (literally) through knee-deep alond soit 4. The taxis were driving in water that went up to the sidewalks. I guess this is what they mean when they say flooding in BKK. It wasn't all that bad, and thank goodness the water was all gone this morning.

I'm sad about leaving BKK after only two weeks, but the good news is, I'll be back in January.

See you on line later.

I'm back home now, safe and sound. Had a lovely two week trip. I only wish it could have been a longer one.

I had the good fortune to travel with Carol and her son to Thailand for two weeks. This was my sixth trip in two years and by far the best one yet. I look forward to my next trip with them. Carols' son and I are both single so travelling with "Mom" was interesting to say the least. Carol is an absolute "Babe Magnet". Son and I both have girlfriends in BKK, but if we didn't we would have in short order thanks to Carol. It seems that Thai women have a very strong view of family, and travelling with her was like drawing moths to the flame. So in future posts when I refer to the "Babe Magnet" you'll know who I'm talking about. Thanks Carol. John

john, welcome to the board of all boards...we are anxious to meet this babe magnet in boston on saturday...and also the babe magnet son...we'll size him up seperately...he won't find NE girls nearly as interesting or caring as bkk girls...

we look forward to your contributions in the future...a single man (farang) will add another dimension to the board..

Welcome!!
