Leave for India Friday
we leave for a short trip to India Friday evening. Have booked hotels and guides/drivers with Compass for 10 days. We're doing Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur and Delhi at the end of our trip.
Looking for last minute suggestions for restaurants and perhaps shopping or unusual things to do in those areas. Compass has arranged for me to spend some time at a kindergarten in Delhi. That's what I do. Compass has been marvelous to deal with. Ok lets hear your last minute suggestions, warnings etc. Were booked at Delhi radisson 1st night, Jaypee in Agra, Jasvilas, Fatehprakash Palace in Udaipur and Nikko in Delhi.
Our travel experiences all over the world have been enriched by everything I've learned on this site the past 5+ years!

In Jaipur there is a terrific casual restaurant in the middle of town called "Indiana" It has wonderful dancing and music in a large courtyard every night. You eat outside in the courtyard and the food is fantastic. Casual. Abundant dinner for two with a couple Kingfisher beers was around $20.

In Udaipur take an evening boat ride out to the "Ladies Palace" on the lake. Great picture opportunities (the James Bond movie Octopussy had many scenes at this palace as well as multiple scenes in the PBS "Jewel in the Crown" series.

Recently got back from a 2 week trip to India and while in Udaipur ate lunch several times at a great restaurant called Ambrai. I can't ell you the address but it is past the Udai Kothi Hotel and most rickshaw drivers would know how to get there. It is outdoor seating that sits right out on the lake. The view is great and so is the food. It was also interesting to see the local people go about their business at the lake ie: bathing, washing clothes etc. toatlly oblivious that they are the subjuct of thousands of pictures taken by the foriegners.
