Hello! and thank you all for your good wishes! i am finally able to go online, but at a coin op computer! Only have enough coins for 10 minutes, so this will be very brief. I will call it the official opening of a trip report though... Save me from those fines, GPanda!
Arrived in Singapore late at night. what an easy place to get a taxi! Am staying at the Orchard st YMCA. Pretty basic room, but very clean comfortable and a nice location. So far, I've been to the Asican Civ museum, the botanic and Orchid gardens (Fabulous!!!), Chinatown and the Golden landmark/ moslem areas. Mostly have walked, and walked and walked!
In between the walking, I have been eating like a pig. Couldn't tell you the names of the places...its all been at hawker stalls. My new favorite is Laksah (sp?), and I got a kilo of mangosteen for S$ 2!
WEather is muggy, but not horribly hot. I look at it as practice for India!
I have 1.5 more days till daughter gets back from climbing Mt Kinabalu. Am enjoying discovering Singapore solo, but saving some stuff till I'm with her and the other women!
Ooops times up. See you all later!!!

lcuy, I recall how supportive you were when I was planning, going on, and even after my trip to Japan w/my young teen daughter two yrs. ago. You told me you knew the challenges of traveling to Asia w/a teen daughter. And now I get to read the continuing saga of you and your daughter (how old is she now?) traveling to India and back to Singapore.
Wow- what an adventure. Tell us about your daughter's climb of Mt. Kinabalu.
Looking forward to following this one!!

Have a great trip lcuy. I just got to Singapore last night and am heading to Penang this afternoon (Sunday). I'm coming back to Singapore Thursday night. Sounds like you've been here a few days.
