late arrival KIX to kyoto

We have a late arrival into KIX at 21:25 and plan to go to kyoto. We're concerned re: our ability to access transportation into the city. It looks as if the airport limosine bus stops running at 21:45, whereas the JR haruka express stops running at 22:16 (may not be able to catch it if our flight is delayed, by the time we go through customs, pick up our luggage).

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

the express may stop, but there's other trains that would be available likely through 11:30pm or os - though a stop over/change may be required. search here:

Cathy:

If this doesn't blow your budget, I would suggest doing what we recently did, door to door!..altho we came in domestically at Itami airport. Through our lodgings in Kyoto (Three Sisters Inn Annex) we arranged for MK Limo services and they were prompt, courteous and took us to the door of the inn. On the return, they picked us up at the inn and everything worked great. They pick up at several Kyoto hotels and service both Itami and KIX.

The cost, two months ago was 2300 yen per person each way(less than $20). I think it's about 3000 from KIX ($25).

No worry about luggage, the comfort of riding in an A/C limo, uniformed driver with the usual white gloves..ours spoke fairly good English and commented on sights along the way...but it was in daylight hours.

By the way, we recommend the Three Sister Inn Annex which is sort of a quasi-ryokan experience, off-street location within its own gadens, charmimg hostess, breakfasts available at nominal charge...many restaurants nearby, also Heian Shrine around the corner, and the crafts building two blocks walk... city-wide superb bus service two blocks away...(bus pass).

Rate for good sized double, en suite: about $140 now.

We loved it.

Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestions! I've made arrangements with MK limo services. Since we're arriving at KIX late evening, this transport option seems ideal: brings us door to door and no worries about luggage.
