Sue:

We spent 2 nights at the Perdana Sheraton resort. If you are looking for a resort with spellbinding views and romantic this is the place. Good entertainment and the food is good not excellent. Price was $73.00 US dollars a night. Do not make your reservation on the internet it is cheaper via the 800 Sheraton number. This is a genuine 5 star property.

Another vote for the Perdana. We stayed there for 10 nights of our honeymoon last year and thought it was a great hotel in a wonderful location - surrounded by tropical rainforest, but close enough to Kuah town for frequent shopping/dining out trips.

Stayed at The Andaman in Langkawi last Christmas. It's a wonderful resort that's more secluded from the rest of Langkawi. Surrounded by jungles, it has a good location if you're interested in jungle treking. The atmopshere is very romantic and one of the better 5-star-resorts around.

Stayed at the Andaman last Christmas. The hotel has a private beach and the view is spectacular! Very secluded from the rest of Langkawi. Food is pretty good (especially room service!). Rooms are very spacious - the only complaint I have is that they lack "character" (very typical Southeast Asian design often found in luxurious resorts in the area). Our stay was very comfortable except our "jungle trek" excursion, which was a nightmare because the tour guide lost his way in the woods and we walked for 7 hours when we only expected 3 (plus it started raining like crazy). Excellent service in general. Overall, a very nice resort.

I was in Langkawi in early May and stayed at the Perdana - excellent hotel - particularly enjoyed the beach combing and although most people didn't seem interested I enjoyed swimming off the beach. The sea was the warmest I've ever been in, although it was very shallow - waist deep 100 yards from shore. One can also rent a kayak and go around the near-by islands. Monkeys and hornbills add to the interest at dusk. As far as transfers go one can purchase a voucher at the taxi booth at the airport for MYR 25 (if memory serves) which you then surrender to the driver of the taxi with the same number as your voucher and he takes you to the Perdana (about a 30 minute trip). If memory serves those staying at the Andaman are met at the airport by the hotel.

Am I the only person who read the question?!

I stayed at the Berjaya last year and it was great. Lovely people, really beautifully laid out resort, nice pool, beach area was gorgeous and they make wicked cocktails in the miniature beach bar. Very couple and family orientated , I went with friend and we found it a bit quiet in the evenings..(though there was an awesome 'so bad they're good' covers band playing in the bar at night!)
It's quite an isolated spot though so you'll need to hire bikes/car or get taxi to get to anywhere else in the island.

Cenang is good in the evenings, good selection of places to eat. Also you should go into Kuah one evening and eat from the hawker stalls by the sea - I'd kill to have some of that satay right now with an Ice Milo on the side!

There a place called 7 wells near Berjaya actually which is fun, like a natural waterslide, but be careful if you take kids there - I got swept away!

e-mail me if i can help any more.

Datai is the sister of Andaman, only smaller and more secluded. Private (and beautiful) beach, gorgeous golf course and your own villa in the middle of the rainforest. Rather expensive, but we really loved the elegant yet natural touch of our huge villa!

It's quite a drive to downtown - but there's not much to see in downtown anyway -- I mean, compared to what the rainforest has to offer. We joined the complimentary evening walking tour around the premise, which was quite fun.

There's supposed to be a lot of waterfalls but they are all dried up during the drier season - but thunderstorms make the island really unfriendly during the rainy season! So
your best bet might be to stay in your resort and enjoy their beach during the dry season.
