Can anyone who has stayed at the Miyako tell me what their breakfast included? We had already booked at the Kyoto Hotel Okura (without breakfast) when I found a room (breakfast included) for less at the Westin Miyako. We only have 1 1/2 days in Kyoto so will probably be spending most of our time doing walks and touring in the eastern part of town. Being able to check in at the train station is also an advantage.

Is the rm at the Westin on the executive club level - is it that free breakfast, because i know about htat one.

No, It is a regular floor superior grand city view room booked as "Best Rate with Breakfast."

Did anyone else stay here and have their breakfast or know what they serve in the restaurant for breakfast?

Janman, since you have had no responses, let me tell you what the Club level breakfast is like. It might give you some idea of what to expect w/your package - I can't imagine that Westin Miyako would offer you less than what the Club level offers on their complimentary breakfast.

Club level breakfast: Nice spread with both American and Japanese items. Japanese: steamed fish, miso soup, rice, pickled items, etc. American: baked goods (nice high quality ones), fresh fruits (both whole and sliced up into fruit salad), green salad (unusual on a buffet like this, but I ate some every day), a nice meat tray like you would see in Europe for breakfast, sliced cheeses, cereals, juices, boiled eggs (we took a few for our backpack for the day), coffee, tea, etc.

One suggestions: Call the Starwood reservation number and tell the agent that your decision on whether to stay there is hanging on this point. My experience w/Starwood tells me that they will call the Miyako and ask them what the breakfast is that you are entitled to.

If I was you, my bigger concern would be location. As I said in my previous posting, the locations for the 2 hotels is pretty different, esp. for evenings. I liked the Miyako a lot - we got good treatment there and that good club breakfast w/my room. But I am going w/Okura this time due to location for doing things at night, etc. If you have limited time and know you will stick to the eastern side of town and have the free breakfast w/Miyako, I'd go with Miyako. It is a very good class hotel and from my experience I don't think the breakfast will let you down. And yes, the train station check in and shuttle bus to Miyako is an advantage. We used the shuttle (not the remote check-in because we arrived just as the shuttle bus was leaving and just hopped on it).

I think we will plan to stay at the Miyako. The price is quite a bit lower than the Okura and includes the breakfast buffet in the restaurant. If it is at all like the buffet you described we'd almost want to skip lunch and just have a snack, saving more! Having only 1 1/2 days in Kyoto we will probably stick to the east side so that should be pretty convenient. I did finally locate your trip report. It was great!
