Kyoto on the Weekend early Nov. - any Places to Avoid?
Having been forewarned to avoid Arashiyama during peak tourist periods on the weekends (Gateway to Japan), I am wondering if I should factor this into our Kyoto travel plans. Other than Arashiyama, we have a day trip to Nara and a day which includes Kinkajuki, Ryoanji, Ginkajuki and the Philosopher's Path. Any need to be concerned about the order of doing these? Our 4 full days are Sat. to Tues. The other day will be spent in Gion and environs.

There are three national holidays in November:

You can see the calendar here.
If you mean the first weekend in November it may be crowded - haven't been there then myself....
It probably is a bit early for Kyoto autumn leaves....

Haven't been there on Culture Day....I was in Tokyo for Labor Thanksgiving Day in 2011 and was staying at an inn in the Yanaka area which always seemed very quiet to me. Well, as I was walking down the main drag, Ginza, from the train station to my inn it was really crowded....but the street had become much more tourist oriented since my previous visit there in 2004....lol....
So maybe things will be more crowded where you are - just be prepared....and enjoy!

We have this concern too, we'll be in Kyushu for that weekend, and self-driving, so a little concerned road traffic will be busier. In the UK there's also what we sometimes call Sunday driver or bank holiday driver syndrome - people who don't drive very much usually but take to their cars on Sunday or bank holidays only to go off on holiday or go visiting. A MENACE on the roads. I'm hoping Japan doesn't have that!!! ;-)
