KL? any good?

I'm going to europe in june and wanted to do a stopover in asia the only option I
have is kuala lumpur.
The main reason to stop would be shopping particularly markets as i would be looking for pirate dvds, music and especially the copy watches. I would like to know is KL any good in this type of shopping along with designer shopping and are the products good quality.
one friend who has previously been to kl said he picked up replica watches that looked and
even had the same feel to the originals is this true?
or are most just cheap crap which
can easily spotted.
Hotel wise I am looking at the JW.MARRIOTT is this close to shopping areas and is there an LRT station nearby.
I have bought several fake "designer" watches. You have to look around to for the best fakes but its worth it! One other thing ,buying a fake is always a gamble. You may find that they stop working quite quickly or the "gold" can tarnish. But they are so cheap its worth the gamble. I have a perfect working watch that I bought 2 years ago.
CD fakes are high quality and we bought a lot. Go for items that you can test there. I have bought film videos( not dvds) and found that when you play them at home they are unwatchable!

I swear we just had this same question a couple weeks ago. All the fakes and copies you want are to be found at the Petaling Street (Chinatown) Night Market. We've bought lots of DVDs that are good quality and my husband has a copy Rolex which looks and feels authentic - and it still works after six months.

I believe the Marriot is in Bukit Bintang... a very trendy, popular area. If you do a search on the Internet you'll find it. The LRT isn't right there, but you could catch a cab to the Ampang station. Cabs are cheap anyway, and the LRT isn't very convenient to get places, to be honest.

Tom, you couldn't be better placed than staying at Marriot, next door to the hotel is KL most opulent shopping centre called Starhill. The fake watches/designer goods can be found at the market at Petaling Street as previous poster pointed out. It is walking distance from your hotel too.

Enjoy your trip to KL

When shopping in Petaling Street, be sure to bargain. Most of the time, the price can be slashed up tp 50% off the original price. Competition is very stiff since there are many stalls selling fake watches and pirated DVDs,VCDs, so be sure to bargain.

The Marriott Hotel is in the "Golden Triangle" of Kuala Lumpur. For cheaper stuff especially clothing and shoes, Sungei Wang Plaze would be better than Star Hill. Lot 10 is another shopping mall near the hotel and has name brands like GUESS, Nike and etc. All the malls mentioned above are withink walking distance from the hotel.

I stayed in KL last September and thoroughly recommend it!
I stayed at the Federal Hotel - excellent location for shopping (near BB Plaza). For pirated games, software etc you must try Imbi plaza which is near BB Plaza but behind it (easy to find on map). It has 6 floors of nothing but pirate software and bargain hardware! Pc games around 8 ringits each
P.s. I though stuff at chinese markets were a rip off! But the food was fantastic!

visit KL you will have a great time!

It is true that if you bargain hard they will come down but even so price was expensive for me as I come from New Zealand and our currency is weak. The Chinese markets were flooded with Brits spending up large and making life hard for us poor Kiwis. One british couple we made friends with had bought 10 watches at the markets for 9 pounds each! No wonder I had trouble getting a good price!

Just curious about the pirated software, CD's, and DVD's: was there any problem bringing them back into the United States?
