Japanese Restaurant Suggestions in BKK
We will be in BKK from Jan. 16 thru 29th. We would like some suggestions on Japanese restaurants but these must serve Shrimp Tempura. We will be staying at the Plaza Athenee.

Bill,
For a non-hotel and gourmet type of restaurant that is not too far from your hotel I suggest Sui King Restaurant tel. 022522002. Ask your hotel to call them for directions and it's a 5 or 10 minutes walk from the Plaza Athenee.
Please note that most if not all Japanese restaurant serves Ebi Tempura but the good ones use large and fresh shrimp and are fried perfectly.

I've read (can't find link) that some people like buying Japanese food in Thailand, because it's a lot cheaper than Japan. Makes sense if you enjoy Japanese.
We ate Japanese food next to Khaosan Road on Thanon Rambuttri street.
I don't know the area well, so maybe someone here can help.
I think it was Thanon Rambuttri street, the narrow street you can access from Khaosan Road. It's tree lined, with bars and food and there is a Sunset Restaurant (?) and the Japanese restaurant is across the street from Sunset.
It's a chain restaurant and has a all you can eat thing.
Anyway, the food was TERRIBLE. Really, really bad.

Tsu and Nami does have very good tempura but make sure you sit by the cooked food section otherwise the food will be cold by the time it get to your table. Price wise it's one of the most expensive hotel restaurant but very good raw fish.

Bill - I am pretty certain it does. As I recall we had lobster tempura as a prelude to the matzuzka beef, which was the main reason for eating there (incidentally both were superb!). Whetehr it is its main speciality, I am not sure. It does have greta teppanyaki and sushi counters and the only menus I could see were from the aforemention counters rather than the ala carte. An email to teh hotel should confirm.
The review in BKK tatler indicates that it does:
