Into Delhi, out of Mumbai two weeks later
A few of us are going to a friend's wedding in Delhi in mid-September. We then plan to go to Agra, but after that aren't sure where to go.
We're thinking about Udaipur and would like to spend a few days in Goa and we're flying out of Mumbai at the end of September.
Does anyone have any suggestions of an itinerary and places to stay?
Thanks!

Sept is warm in India so don't be too ambitious would be my suggestion. The obvious choice would be Delhi-Agra, fast train, overnight Agra, next day transfer by car to Jaipur, 2 nights or 3 in Jaipur, Jaipur-Udaipur by air, 2-3 nights in Udaipur, Udaipur-Goa by air (will be via Mumbai) 3 nights in Goa, back to Mumbai with your balance time there and out. For places to stay advise your budget. You can consider with this itnerary buying a Jet or Indian Airlines unlimited 1 or 2 week air travel pass and Jaipur onwards until Mumbai using that.

As hobbes said, it will be hot. With only two weeks, it may be difficult to include Goa. I am assuming that since Agra is on your list that this is your first trip to India. Thus it may be better to concentrate on Delhi, Agra and the cities of Rajasthan. Starting with Delhi, the amount of time you spend there depends on how much shopping you want to do but plan on 2-3 days for sightseeing as the city is large and spread out. There is "old" Delhi, New Delhi and South Delhi - each requires at least a half day. Skip the Red Fort in "old" Delhi if you are visiting Agra Fort in Agra. You can take the train or hire a driver to go to Agra. You'll want to see the Taj at different times of the day so 2 nights and one full day in Agra is about right. Other sights worth seeing are Agra Fort and It-Ma-Udallah Tomb ("Baby Taj"
. On the drive to Jaipur, stop at Fatephur Sikri the abandoned city about 45 minutes out of Agra. Jaipur is worth 3 nights and 2 full days. I have not been to Udaipur but you must fly there from Jaipur in order to avoid a long drive, I have heard on this forum and elsewhere that it is somewhat overrated as a tourist destination. However, it is a decent place to relax for a few days. Which brings me to my next question: what's your budget for accomodations? If money is no object, the Oberoi properties in Agra, Jaipur and Udaipur are fabulous. The Imperial in Delhi is also a great place to stay.

Hi,
Wow - Wedding in Delhi - Weddings here are Grand events and celebrations happen on a grand scale too....I am sure you would love the experience...
I guess the two weeks includes the time you have to spend at the wedding..?? Than you shall need some time as well to see the sights of Delhi
What I suggest is that you should utilise the day time to visit sights of Delhi ...since all major functions connected with the wedding are in the evening only...
After the wedding you can proceed to Agra (by train or by car) ....visiting Sikandra enroute...
Spend a night or two at Agra..and than on to Jaipur via Fathepur Sikri enroute...
Jaipur is vibrant and colourful and I recommend at least two nights there..
From Jaipur- it shall be best to fly to Udaipur and stay for two or 3 nights (make sure you visit the Ranakpur Temples near Udaipur)...
From Udaipur there is no direct flight to Goa - you shall have to first fly to Bombay and than take the connecting flight to Goa...
Goa can be for a minimum of 3 nights... after which you can fly to Bombay and stay for minimum of 2 nights...
Budget - shall depend on the type of Hotels you choose....Super Deluxe hotels Like Amar Vilas at Agra and Raj Vilas at Jaipur and Udai Vilas at Udaipur are available as well as other five star and first class hotels....
It is best to hire a vehicle (car or a mini van or a mini coach) - depending on how many people you are ...for the travel from delhi to Agra to Jaipur - surface trip..since the wuality of vehicles shal lbe better from Delhi and also the rate cheaper...
Also hire a Guide from Delhi...
september is still low season...(actually almost the end of the low season which lasts till end septemebr) - and most of the Tour operators have special deals with hotels in terms of special rates....
----
Better to plan the trip in advance since the Hotels are always hard to find and so are good guide and vehicles....
----
Let me know if you need help or some more info...
All the best....
