Hyatt on the Bund
We're headed to Shanghai in Oct. and hotel rates are very high, possibly due to the Formula 1. Wanted to stay at Le R Meridien but rates are $484 and this new Hyatt is quite a bit less but how is the location? Can we walk to a lot of places from here and what is near the hotel? Thanks.

That rate is steep, where did you see it?
This Hyatt is not ON the Bund, it is close to the Bund across the bridge over the Suzhou Creek. There is not much around the hotel and walking across the bridge amidst crazy traffic to the vibrant Bund may be a hair-raising experience.
How less is the Hyatt? Suggest you check the Westin, Radisson, JW Marriott, Ritz Carlton, Ruijin Guesthouse, Jingjiang Towers, The Bund Hotel, etc. Isn't F-1 at the end of Sept? The Golden Oct 1 is not a full week but a busy traveling time for the locals.

I've been checking the hotel sites, expedia, etc. but rates are VERY high for Oct. 17th arrival due to Formula 1 I think. Some are sold out(like JW Marriott, Ritz C). Thanks for the info on Hyatt-too bad about location but that explains the lower price.

www.ctrip.com and www.elong.com do not post Oct 17 rates till August 17. If you don't want to wait till then, try [email protected] and see what they come up with.
