Hue hotel help!
I was so sure of the hotel I wanted to stay in in Hue, Vietnam, but now I am second guessing my choice. I had booked the Pilgrimage Village, but now I'm wondering if staying a few kilometers out of town is a good idea, so I've also booked the Azerai La Residence Hue, which Crellston suggested. The two rooms/suites I have booked are these:
at the Azerai I booked a Deluxe River View:
https://azerai.com/resorts/azerai-la...xe-river-view/
at the Pilgrimage, I have booked a Honeymoon Pool Hut :
Honeymoon Pool Hut ? Pilgrimage Village Boutique Resort & Spa
The Pilgrimage is $300 cheaper than the Azerai. But it is out of town. Will that be a problem when visiting the tombs and the Citadel? What about restaurants? When we were in Hue in 2000, we stayed in town at the Huong Giang Hotel, https://www.huonggianghotel.com.vn/
so pretty much anything would be an upgrade from that! But it did have a fabulous location on the Perfume River and our room looked out onto it. In fact, if we opened the window, we could have practically reached out and touched the boats. I'm really stuck on what to do. The Pilgrimage looks lovey and is very affordable, but I would really love to have a room on the Perfume River with a nice balcony. What to do! Crellston, what say you? You are the Vietnam expert here.

I agonise over these sorts of choices too laurieco!
We stayed in one of those riverside rooms at the Azerai and loved it. Also loved the Art Deco style of the public areas which is one of my favourite eras. A very stylish hotel BUT that Poolside room at the Pilgrimage looks in a different league!
Part of the reason we keep returning to Hue is for the food (my wife put together a guide for Hue's food in our blog if you are interested.https://accidentalnomads.com/2017/06...c-food-in-hue/ Being out of town will be an issue in that you wont be able to walk out from the Pilgrimage to the main restaurant areas. Although the Azerai is also a 15 min walk from downtown. That said taxis are plentiful and cheap. The food really is special there, worth seeking out some the better places that specialise in particular dishes
As far as the tombs and the citadel are concerned, I don't think it makes that much difference. you could hire a cab for a day to see them all or take a tour. We have also borrowed bikes to get around the tombs (as long as its not raining). The citadel is walking distance from the Azerai and they will lend you bikes.

Thank you for your input crellston. But I must say, I'm still not sure what to do! I'll have to show the two hotels to my husband and see what he thinks, without telling him the price of each. I don't want that to influence his decision, even though price should be a factor. I'll tell him after.
Thank you for your blog! I'm reading and bookmarking.

After much consideration and showing DH both hotels and the rooms I reserved, we decided to stick with the Pilgrimage Village. Taking a taxi into town and to the sites will be fine. it's not that far away and the private pool looked too good to pass up. Hopefully it will be warm enough to swim, but even if not, just having the pretty outdoor space and all the indoor space will be nice. We'll have a river balcony in Hoi An.
