How now, Macau?

I have 6 nights in H.K. and am considering spending one of them in Macau instead. It would be an early Friday evening ferry to Macau, check in to a hotel (the Ritz?), dinner, casino. Saturday see sights in the morning, races in PM, and back to H.K.

Is it worth spending an evening in Macau? Are the casinos fancy places, i.e. jacket & tie required or would wearing my jeans be ok?

The casinos in Macau are nothing like that of Las Vegas. Not fun IMHO. But Macau is a wonderful place. You may want to stay at the Mandarin Oriental (close to downtown) or the Westin (far away but nice resorty place).

The casinos in Maccau, apart from what miss Muffet has said, are only good for a quick stop over.

Here's a quick gambling guide, Maccau style!

If you're playing blackjack and you're sitting down - if the person standing behind you place a bet in your box, more then your bet, he then control your hand! Sometime even the person sitting next to you will play an add on bet in your box if they think you're lucky.

Ok, thanks, I'll save my gambling for the race track in Macau. For that, I am interested in a hotel that is convenient for the H.K. ferry, the racetrack, or both.

I had been thinking about taking a day trip to macau and spending some time at the Lisboa Casino.

Comparing the Lisboa Casino to a Las Vegas (or Atl City) casino, is roulette played any differently (except for the extra 00 on the American wheel)?

How are Macau casinos different from those in North America or Europe?
