How far is the BTS Skytain from the Royal Orchid Sheraton?

We will be staying at the Royal Orchid Sheraton in Bangkok, which I know is near a Skytrain station. I have looked at a few maps online, trying to figure out how far away the station is, but none of the maps have a scale to determine distances. How have those of you who have stayed at the Royal Orchid gotten to the Skytrain?

sephon taksin station is actully prity far away especially in the infoerno bangkok heat.. it took me about 1 hour too get too the hotel (which I found by accident) I had to stop in a dept store. and jewlery shop just too cool down.. thats why I never stay near the river.

it's acctually about a 15 too 25 minute walk.. have fun with the tuk tuk drivers..

after looking at my map your best deal too get lets say too (siam center) would be too take those canal taxis which are very cheep and verry quick compared too being stuck in trafic for hours too get anywehere..

I always stay at the Royal Orchid, and I use the river taxis rather than the Sky train. True, the river taxis don't go everywhere, but neither does the skytrain. Anything you need ground transport for, use a taxicab. They're cheap.

the station is generally too far to walk on a regular basis so just hop on one of the hotel boats that go down river to taskim pier (5 minute ride)...the boats come to the river city shopping center piers next door to the sheraton ... the sheraton also has its own boat to take you there, i think....much more pleasant by the river....there are also lots of taxis in back of the hotel and the shopping mall...take taxis they are cheap and cool a/C...use the yellow and green ones if you have a choice--owner/ driver
bkk is my favorite place---ENJOY

make sure you eat at Harmonique restaurant, which is on soi 34, new road which is not far from the sheraton...half way between the oriental and the shangra-la hotels on the main road one block in town from the river....

while there shop from our favorite ladies at the JS Thai silk shop on the ground floor of the river city plaza...the shop is small and is opposite the escalator and the info booth at the sheraton end of the mall...ask for ms. yai...she is a gem and will make you beautiful things in just a few days..my wife had a set made in november for $185...all thai silk: shell, over blouse with pleats, skirt, pants....we have had many things made there ...tell them what you want and they will make it or they have samples...work room is upstairs from the shop...
go across the river to the peninsula for tea...its beautiful...or just go over to see your hotel from the other side...jesters is a great restaurant there, but expensive...

have lunch at the oriental at lord jims...fabulous buffet...you won't eat for weeks afterwards...

Thanks to all for the info. I basically wanted to take the skytrain to MBK so my wife can do her shopping. The last time we were in Bangkok the skytrain wasn't built yet. We walked from the Grand Hyatt Erawan (20-30 minutes)and were OK with the heat. We're from Central Florida, so we're used to it. I like to idea of taking the river taxi to Taksim pier, which I believe is by the station. I didn't want to take taxis or tuk-tuks (already did that) because of the traffic. Besides, the skytrain will be a new experience, as will be staying on the river rather than at the Hyatt where we stayed the two previous times we were in Bangkok. Would appreciate any more comments from people who have stayed at the Royal Orchid.

I spent six nights at the Royal Orchid around Thanksgiving using my Starwood points. If possible, I recommend you get a Tower Room. The floors are high up for a great view, and the free laundry every day is wonderful -- we were allowed six pieces each per day. We left it in the morning and it was waiting for us each afternoon when we returned to the room.

We used the Tower Lounge on the 26th floor several times during the early evening.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Took the river boats to the major sites and used taxis the other times. Never really ran into any major traffic jams. Some of the rides seemed fast to me -- but then, I live in Southern California.

We had tea in the Authors Lounge at the Oriental -- I recommend it. Cannot recommend the set-dinner and cultural show at the Oriental, though. I thought it too touristy and expensive.

Breakfast at the Sheraton was great -- a huge buffet of American, Thai, and Japanese food. Was included with the Tower Room.

Went shopping at the Weekend Market -- 8,600 stalls. Fun shopping. We took a taxi part way and met up with a friend who showed us how to use the Skytrain. The Skytrain stops very close to the market and we were able to walk from the station.

Thanks luvtotravel. I am also using Starwood points for our stay. How did you get the tower room? Did they upgrade you when you checked in because you are a Starwood member or something else?
