Hotel in Kyoto in April
Hi Forodites,
I need an advise on the hotel in Kyoto. We will be there in April 2017, I know it’s close but I see some hotels are still available and I already reserved one of them (can be cancelled if I come up with a better option).
I understand Kyoto is big so I was thinking of staying close to the restaurants/shops to walk in the evening and convenient to the train station as we will be taking day trips.
I am looking for a western style hotel with an ambiance, a luxury or midrange-luxury hotel, a pool is a plus. Budget is up $300-350-400 per night depending on the amenities.
I reviewed a number of them and couldn’t come up with the best option
- Granvia – convenient to the train station, has a pool, little ambiance, far from restaurants;
- Westin – some people said not conveniently located, need to take shuttle, doesn’t work for us;
- Kanra - ?
- Noku Roxy – ?
- RIGHA Royal Hotel – in the middle of restaurants, not sure about anything else
Please provide your feedback.

What restaurants are you on about? Kyoto has restaurants all over the place.
However you arrived at "Granvia . . . far from restaurants," you're astonishingly wrong. Anything "convenient to the train station" will have about 40 restaurants within walking distance including the 20+ in the station and its department stores. Karasuma dori, which leads directly north of the station, has dozens of restaurants before you even get to the next main avenue (Shichijo dori). Kyoto station also has innumerable food halls where you can purchase takeaway.
