Horse riding holiday in Sri Lanka

Hi, has anyone ever been to Sri Lanka for a horse riding holiday? I'm planning to go with a friend this year October for 2 weeks and am wondering where to book... I would prefer booking directly with a local travel agent to avoid middle-men fee. Any recommendations?

Hi Lena, one of my friends went to Sri Lanka for horse riding. I've asked her where she booked, she told me it was a local Sri Lankan travel agent called Mai Globe Travels who organized the tour in cooperation with a horse riding school. She went riding in Kalpitiya, Kandalama, Nuwara Eliya and Tissamarama. In between there were some non-riding days also, because they transport the horses from place to place and they need to rest. But they did sightseeing stuff and safaris in between and apparently it was a really nice tour and group. They were in total 5 riders. If you like to know more please send me a pm and I can put you in touch with my friend.

Wow, I would love to do a riding holiday in Sri Lanka- how fun! Alexa, may I ask how experienced was your friend? Was she knowledgeable enough about horses to know if they were in good condition to be ridden? That is my biggest concern with riding holidays, that I won't be satisfied as a horse owner myself with the care the horses receive.

@needmorevacation: She's an experienced rider and owns her own horse. So I believe she can judge well how the horses condition was.

Hi, Nuwaraeliya & Ambewala are quite famous for horse riding. But remember both places are quite cold so get yourself some good accommodation. You can perhaps check- in at the Jetwing Warwick Gardens (if you are looking for star class accommodation), their room rush deal comes with a 50% discount- but you can also find other options around.
