Hooray! We Have Our E-Tickets for Our Next SE Asia Trip!
Just cleared out our United Mileage Plus accounts today, redeeming 180,000 miles for 2 Business Class seats on the Thai Airways JFK - BKK flight for a 2-1/2 week trip next February. We were originally going to use miles to upgrade and take United via Narita but they wanted $1783 EACH for "upgradeable" tickets. Instead I purchased 40,000 miles for $1100 so that we would have enough for the Thai flight - a small price to pay, in my opinion, for the comfort of business class seats worth over $6,000 each on a direct flight. We are currently planning to spend 3 or 4 days in Bangkok and the remainder of our time in Myanmar.

Congrats, Craig!
United has really upped their prices for upgradeable seats. We paid almost $1600 each for our seats from Seattle. But since those miles I'll earn keep me a Premier Exec, it's worth it to me. I understand we'll soon be able to upgrade on Thai and other airlines with our miles. I wish there was a non-stop from Seattle!

Andy, Although we'd love to be there when you are in November(?), the February - early March time frame works really well for us. It would be great though if our paths could cross in SE Asia.

Craig-I'm sure it will happen. This year, Bob and Karen will be in BKK when Beth and I are there in late November. I'm fairly sure this will entail many more conversations with hotel managers, etc., than normal. Of course, unless we go to the Marriott pool, we may never see them.

GPanda, Despite Bob, you should really try the Marriott resort & spa this trip! I think you would love it -- can't think of a better place for you to wear your speedo & smoke your cigar...

CFW-the problem is that we can stay at the Royal Orchid Sheraton in the Towers for FREE. We've become very familiar with the surrounding environs. Plus the ROS has refrained from negative comments on the Speedo.
