Thanks for the list of options "off-shore." I'll check into it. As long as they are clean and in a safe area, not to mention a short walk to shopping, I'll be in good shape. UA, I'm sure, offers at least one of these in their United Vacations. The deals are usually pretty good. They include flights and hotel, as well as transfers and some freebies too.
Melissa,
Glad you saw my note on the US boards! I didn't know if this GTG had been posted yet or not.

Thanks for the input. I really wish you could make it to the GTG, but I understand your conflict. I'd be in BKK too, other than the timing isn't quite right for me. Anyway, thanks for the input on the Malia. I appreciate it very much. I'm just working on trying to book a UnitedVacation, but I'm not having much luck choosing flights and then trying to add my hotel. I think I'll call my ff support number. They have treated me very fairly in the past and I expect to get the same treatment once again. After all, I am a VERY frequent flyer with UA.
I've decided on the Ohana East (kuranosuke, is it OK?). I'm not quite sure why, other than that area is familiar to me (more or less) and I want to avoid the construction on the beachwalk, so I won't stay at HHV even though I dearly LOVE that place!
I'm looking forward to a week of rest and relaxation after a very busy summer here in Illinois.

carol, i like the east best because of the location. its on the corner of kuhio and a street with a looooooong hawaiian name. its behind the princess kaiulani hotel, about three min. walk to the hyatt and kalakaua ave.

Of all the aforementioned Ohana hotels I think the Ohana East has the best rooms, location and restaurants of all of the other Ohana hotels. We've stayed there on a couple of New Years Eve parties in Waikiki and were satisfied. It also has a Keo's Thai restaurant on property which is the only Keo's restaurant which opens for breakfast(we had our last HNL gtg in Keo's mom's restaurant).
Looking forward to meeting you and all the others at the gtg.
ken: how about 6:00pm ?
luuuuuucy....where are yooooou ?
Aloha!

Hi Carol,
Glad to hear you can make it to the HNL GTG. Russ and I offer you a ride to the restaurant for the HNL GTG. You can let us know later on.
Ken, thanks again for putting this together. Re the Isis & Russ attendees, there will just be the two of us for now.

Isis, I'll be in touch. I should have my laptop with me when I'm in HNL. I do appreciate the offer of a ride from ALL of you who so kindly volunteered!!
Since I already know Isis and Russ, I will probably ride with them... it saves looking around a crowded hotel lobby for someone I've never met before... hope everyone understands.
To one and all: You are such lovely people! I've already met Isis and Russ face to face in BKK and do look forward to meeting all the rest of you in HNL.

I've had a slight change of plans, guys. I'm still coming to the GTG in HNL, but I won't be staying for one week. I'll only be in HNL for about 5 days because I've now decided I really need to go to BKK on a very short buying trip. So..... I'll be off to BKK either Sunday or Monday after the GTG. Probably Monday. I am going to talk to my travel agent this Monday. I hope she can get me a good deal. I'm glad I hadn't purchased my package deal on line yet from UA Vacations!! I just decided today that I need to make this BKK trip. I'll get to see guenmai, I hope, as she will be in BKK when I get there. Should be a fun trip, even though quite short.

carol, five days in hono should be enough time for you and your pocketbook to get into alot of trouble. lol.
mahalo for the info on ming. do post here what you find out, as i like to see her when next i go to bkk.
btw, the time for the gtg is at 6pm. its byob, corkage=$7. i got the impression from yun hee(ht, we both got the spelling wrong), owner, that the more bottles we brought, the less the corkage. honest.
anyway, everyone still welcome, especially the local newbies. come and see for yourself what a bunch of internet prowlers look like.
