Hong Kong - Yantai
We are going to visiti our son in Yantai in May. So far we have booked flights to Hong Kong from UK and intend to return to UK from Shanghai a few weeks later. We discovered that flights are really expensive from Hong Kong to Beijing or Shanghai and are considering taking the train. Our son says this is not a good option! Meanwhile he is looking at options, but I know that Fodorites will be far quicker to reply!
Just wonderering if any of you have advice on this one!
Thanks for any replies.

And there are non-stop from Shenzhen (SZX) to Yantai (YNT). Daily on Shangdong Airlines; some days also China Southern. Full fare is 1,850RMB, but you should be able to get 30% off fares (i.e. 1,300RMB) for most days. Perhaps even a little cheaper.

Agree with rkkwan, you can check the prices from SZX to Shanghai or Beijing on Ctrip or Elong for the next 2 months as comparison but don't book till a week or 2 before you leave the UK, others may advise you to book in HK. You can take the night train between Shanghai and Beijing.
Yantai will be nice to visit in May, my DS was there in January and it was freezing, The 8 Immortals were not sailing across the sea to their sacred island!
