well we've been in HK for about 2 days now and sadly missed the Go's due to jetlag striking us yesterday evening. Sorry to have missed you, mr & ms_ go. weather is overcast and rainy - just like home! we've done some sightseeing both in Kowloon and HK island but still not been up the Peak as there didn't seem to be much point if we couldn't see anything when we got there.
for a stopover, 3 days seems about right, though we might have felt differently had the sun shone at all. I have to thank Chris above for the tip about staying at the Salisbury - we got a free upgrade from our partial harbour view room to a full harbour view and as I write this I'm looking out of the window across to the twinkling lights of HK island. overall it's much more like a hotel than I'd expected and the view is great. Our room is one which has been renovated recently so everything is brand new, and has room safe, mini-bar, decent over-bath shower, tea-making facilities, and excellent air/con. wi-fi you have to pay for [HK$ 40/4 hours] so this is out one and only splurge on that as we had to check in for our onward fflight tomorrow.

oops - posted too soon - drafted i-pad.
best bits so far? exploring the mid-levels above the western area - including the museum of Dr. Sun Yet-sen, who was apparently the father of the original chinese revolution. Who knew?
also the amazingly cheap Star ferry [each trip the equivalent of 20p] and riding on the trams - again amazingly cheap and slow enough to be able to take everything in, and get on and off where you like.
worst bits? the incredible number of people, and the weather, which has put a bit of a dampener on things- but then we should be grateful when we look at the pictures of those poor people in the Phillipines, that we're here at all.

an update - on getting home, we reckon that our three nights in Hong Kong were about right.
had the weather been better we might have wanted to go to Macau but as it was, it turned sunny on the last day so we went up the Peak and walked up to the top, then had a nice meal in the garden of the restaurant which overlooks the other side of HK island. not cheap, but nice food and you only do it once!
