Hi -

Well, I've never heard of Miramar. We've stayed at the Hyatt Regency. It's a nice business hotel. The Grand Hyatt is certainly the most elegant, and not doubt, the most expensive. However, it really depends on what you will be doing.

We prefer to stay on Kowloon but if you will be doing business in Central, then the Grand Hyatt would probably be better. Can I ask your main purpose for being in HK? Perhaps I can help you better with your question if I know why you are going.
<BR

Lynn, The Miramar is a Kowloon side hotel located at 130 Nathan Road across from Kowloon Park. The plus of the location is that it is in the midst of shopping, has the impresive Kowloon Park across the street, and has the MTR right on the corner of Haiphong and Nathan Road, about three blocks south. The Hotel is actually on Nathan between Kimberley and Granville. The negatives are being on Nathan Road it is busy, noisy, and crowded. But this applies to almost of all Tsim Sha Tsui. I've not stayed at this hotel either.

Like Lynn, I HAVE stayed at the Hyatt Regency. It is a large business hotel. Do not ask for a room with a view of the Harbor at this hotel as its location is blocked by other large hotels further south. But do ask for a high floor. The rooms are nicely appointed and spacious. The staff is friendly - at least the staff upstairs. I recall a running 'battle' with the housekeeper. I slept with the AC on...and the room would be quite cool, so I would need the bedspread LEFT ON the bed, like an extra blanket. But every night it would be removed, and I'd have to take it out of the closet.
There is one problem - the room safe is at floor level and is directly opposite the bed. If you sit on the bed, to open the safe, depending on how good your vision is - you might not be able to see the numbers on the combination safe lock...if you can't see, then you have to sit on the floor to open the safe. Other than that the room was fine...including a nice big TV...The Hyatt Regency is about a six-seven minute walk to the STAR FERRY.

The Miramar is really too far from the Star Ferry to call it convenient.

The main problem about staying Hong Kong side at the Grand Hyatt is this...
when you stay HK side you do not have the best view of Hong Kong.

May I recommend the Hong Kong Hotel, at 3 Canton Road, Kowloon. This hotel is only a two minute walk to the Star Ferry. has Harbor view rooms...but why pay for a harbor view room, when you can walk to the real view of ther harbor in only a few minutes. And the Hong Kong Hotel is connected directly to the large shopping mall at the tip of Kowloon. And if you stay on their Continental Club Floors, you get private check in, private lounge for breakfast, AND TRANSFER FROM THE AIRPORT AND BACK TO AIRPORT included.

Hope this helps.
Michael

in years of business travel, i've stayed at just about every hotelin hong kong. also lived there for several years. first you need to decide which side you want to stay on. most of the tourist hotels are on the kowloon side, thus most tourists stay there. personally, i'd go for the hong kong side (even though as justly noted the view is better from kowloon.) hong kong side is just more, well, hong kong. eliminate the miramar. it's out of the way and over the hill. between the two hyatts even discounting location the grand hyatt is much newer (in hong kong where age does not lend charm, new is better). getting back to location, the hyatt regency is smack in the middle of nathan road, which to me is nightmare hong kong.
a couple of tips on things to do from an ex-local: walk the length of bowen path, in midlevels, hong kong. (ask a taxi driver to take you to the starting point. you can get a taxi at the other end.) especially charming in the early morning.
walk around the peak at sunset. do the ocean side first when you get to the city side the lights will just be coming on. afterwards have dinner at the peak cafe. even if you have to wait make sure you get a table in the garden.
