Honeymooners in Malaysia- Itinerary
After lots of thinking and making various modifications, we have made up our mind. As our wedding will be on saturday, we selected qatar airways since it flies to KL on monday (malaysia airlines flies to KL on sunday morning, therefore it was off the list).
We will be in malaysia between 29th of november and 9th of december.
We thought of the following for our malaysia honeymoon;
4 days Penang (Eastern & Oriental Hotel)
3 days Pankgor Laut Resort
3 days Kuala Lumpurt (ritz carlton)
Is 3 days enough for Pangkor Laut? If not we can stay 6 days in Pangkor Laut and cancel the stay in penang.
Any suggestions and critism would be great.

Hi,
If you have not been to Penang, don't cancel it. E & O is in the city area and since you are not staying at the beach, 3 days break at Pangkor Laut is great to relax.
Beware of pickpickets when in KL especially when you board those monorail or train within the city. They come in a gang, surround you. At a stop when the door opens, Someone will drop some coins, pretend to kneel down in front of you to pick them, grab your leg and start shaking it. You will be shocked and surprised. Next you know, someone else picked your pocket. You won't feel anything !!
There are other tricks too. Always protect your valuables and be extra careful if something unusual happens around you, it could be a pickpocket or snatch-robbery trick.

We've been to Pangkor Laut 3 times and we love it. Are you staying 3 nights or two nights at PL? It takes about 3 hours from Penang to PL by cab. The ferry (another hour) leaves Lumut for PL at 8, 11. 2, and 5. You should leave Penang by 7 to make the 11 ferry. If you are staying 3 nights, that would give you 3 days for the beach. A cab from Lumut to KL will take about 3 1/2 hours. If you depart PL at 9 (1st ferry out), you should arrive in KL about 12:30. Cabs will cost 1/2 the price of PL cars. If you only have 2 nights at PL, you would only have 2 days at the beach. It's a lot of traveling time for such a short stay.

For the KL part of your honeymoon, we would highly suggest choosing the Mandarin Oriental over the Ritz Carlton. We've stayed in both hotels and in our opinion the Ritz does not compare to the MO. If you do choose the MO, ask for a Club level room facing the Petronas Towers -- a fantastic view, especially at night. Have a great honeymoon!

Thanks for your replies.
Chinesefan, it would be great if you can recommend us hawker foods in penang
Twofortheroad, Sorry I forgot to write in the original mail that 4 nights in penang, 3 nights in PL and 3 nights in KL.
And WinterTravel, we are now looking for Mandarin Oriental KL. Is club level room a category of room?
And can you give some more information about the prices of transfers from penang to lumut, from lumut to kuala lumpur?
And which airline (malaysia or airasia) do recommend for flying between KLIA and penang (one way)?
thanks again

Looks like a lovely itinerary. The stay at Pangkor Laut will be very relaxing because there's nothing to do except relax, indulge and enjoy the beach, sun and island.
For flying between KL and Penang, both Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia are fine (the latter is cheaper, especially if you can get the promotional fares). AirAsia has a good ticketing system online and if you book far enough in advance you can get cheap fares.

The food in Penang is wondeful. A few of my favorite places in Penang:
- Fishing Village: its a small open restaurant with great lobster, black pepper squid, prawns. Very inexpensive as well.
- Bukit Genting Hill: beyond the airport upon a hill. Food is OK, but the view in excellent ( thai )
- Kashmir: just good indian food on Penang Road
Just a thought...Tanjung Rhu in Langkawi has a BBQ in the beach that is equally incredible.

Pangkor Laut is beautiful but as you are in Penang already, you may wish to consider Langkawi. The Datai is fabulous.
I'll second the recommendations for Kashmir and the Fishing Village in Penang. The latter one of my best meals ever because the food was incredible, restaurant itself very low key. Beware of the clay pot noodles - the chilis in them are HOT.
Have a lovely honeymoon

Club level is a room category (the rooms are on the top floors of the M O hotel and have access to the Club lounge which offers free breakfast, afternoon tea and evening drinks/snacks, as well as beverages free all day. Nice to unwind there after being out and about.
In terms of internal Malaysia flights, we booked ours on Malaysia Airlines via their website (http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/). Booking in advance, we found the internal flights on Malaysia Air to have very reasonable prices.

In 1999, the cab from KL to Lumut was $50, the PL car $100. In 2001, the cab from Lumut to Penang was $30. In 2003, the cab from Lumut to KLIA (an hour further than KL) was $65.
Ask the E & O to get you a cab to Lumut & specify you want good air conditioning. When you arrive at Pangkor Laut's office in Lumut, tell the head deskman that you want a cab to KL & ask the price--also specify good air conditioning. The day before you leave PL, ask the desk to call the PL office in Lumut to remind them about your cab. You can ask at PL what the charge would be for their car & compare.
The PL car is a mercedes, the cab will be less luxorious.
If you arrive at the PL office in Lumut early, walk across the street to the river promenade. There are several open air cafes, serving marvelous soups, very spicy, and the best ABC (Ice Cachang).
At Pangkor Laut sign up for a walk (free)through the rain forest with Mr. Yip. It's a fantastic experience.

Having just returned from Malaysia last night, I can definitely recommend the MO in KL. We stayed in a Club level room with a view of the Petronas Towers and it was worth the money for the upgrade. The only problem is that you may not want to leave the hotel!
In Penang, we were at the E&O, which was very nice. Only complaint is that they keep the air-con on frigid throughout the hotel so bring a sweater or jacket. In Penang, a short cab ride from the E&O is a great restaurant called Thirty-Two, serving sort of western fusion food. It's very lovely and romantic and the food was among the best we had in Malaysia. Be sure to make reservations however.
