Hoi An or Luang Prabang?

We are currently in HCMC, Vietnam and heading to Mui Ne beach for a few days. After that, I am debating whether we should fit in Hoi An, or instead go to LP after Angor Wat (we won't have time to do both). Does anyone have a recommendation? Is Hoi An getting too touristy? Either place we would probably stay three days. So far we have been to Hanoi, Sapa and HCMC.

I'd go to Luang Prabang -- no competition. Or, if you want to see more of Vietnam go to Nha Trang.

i adored hoi an when i went this summer. the beaches were stunning - stayed at the victoria ann resort....beautiful hotel with great service...very close to the charming town. however, not much historical exploring to do. i would take hoi an over nha trang anyday though. can't speak to luang but i have heard it is beautiful and serene. i would visit there if you can, as i fear, it will become overriden with tourism (similar to angkor wat) before you know it...

Go to Luang Prabang after Angkor Wat - just the down time u need in a charming little town where time has stood still - in Lunag Prabang just soak in the atmosphere of the town with no agenda after a hectic schedule in Siem Reap. ENJOY!

Thanks for your replies! Do you know if there are flights from Siem Reap to Luang Prabang? And if so, approx. cost?

Both places are appealing and it is a harde choice, but I would choose Luang Prabang because of its historic base. ZZ

I have been to both. I enjoyed Luang Prabang more. More laid back and not as touristy. I found the people friendlier in Luang Prabang. The surroundings are more beautiful and historical in Luang Prabang.

Just wondering if anyone has any comments to add to this Hoi An vs. LP debate...at first I thought Hoi An sounded really charming, but the more I read it sounds like it does not compare to LP for charm. Any advice? I would only have 2-3 days to spend in either place.
