20 days in Thailand and where else?
Hi, we're going to Thailand for 20 days in March. This will be our third time going there. I'm thinking to spend a few days in Bangkok and 5 days/4 nights in Krabi. We'd like to add a side trip (outside of Thailand). I'm looking for suggestion on where to go for either 3 or 4 days. I'm looking into Vietnam (Hanoi?) and Malaysia. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
p.s. We've been to Hong Kong and Singapore.

Hanoi would be a nice side trip. But have you been to Cambodia to see the temples at Angkor? They are truly one of the wonders of the world. Another option is Luang Prabang, Laos, a charming world heritage site. You might also be interested in Penang, specifically, the historic Georgetown area. The E&O hotel alone is worth the trip, throw in the world-famous hawker food and it's a great destination. If that sounds at all interesting, take a look at my Penang trip report.

I would go to either Siem reap or Luang Prabang. hanoi is wonderful but I would suggest going there when you have the time to do more of Vietnam. Siem Reap and Luang Prabang are perfect for 3 or 4 days and easy to get to. They are also very different from Bangkok and Krabi.

luang prabang, laos might be a nice change for you....hotels are a bit difficult to get so look and reserve now...
4 full days in siem reap is what i would suggest if you go there....a guide/driver is necessary at a cost of about $50 per day
