HK to Shenzhen

I am planning on taking an 11:30 am ferry from HK to Shekou which somehow gets me to Shenzhen where I catch a 4:30 plane to Guilin. Is it a bus I catch after the ferry? Where do I go through customs and what is it like (time consuming?). I am guessing that there won't be very much time until heading to the airport, but any suggestions of what I have time to see/do?

Why do you want to go through Shekou? Any particular things you want to see there?

There are direct ferries from Hong Kong to the Shenzhen airport, using the Fuyong pier.

If you want to see more of Shenzhen, you can just take the KCR train to Lowu, cross the border, then take the subway and connect to the Airport Bus #330.

Or one can take a "direct" bus from Hong Kong to SZX.

There's little reason to take the ferry to Shekou.

Thanks, I didn't realize there was a direct ferry from Kowloon. The trip has been somewhat planned for me and that must be what they had in mind. Do I go through customs exiting the ferry? Is the ferry terminal in town close to seeing anything. Or is it a safer bet to go from the ferry to the bus to the airport?

The Fuyong pier is next to SZX, so no going anywhere.

The Shekou pier is close to places like the Sea World (dining and entertainment, centered on a retired Mediterranean yatch), and the Window of the World (theme park with miniatured copies of famous places in the world). But it's not close to the center of Shenzhen. I believe there's a direct city bus that goes from Shekou to SZX, but it's probably quite slow; or you can take a taxi.

Either way you do it, you'll exit Hong Kong immigration before you board the ferry, and then Chinese immigration when you get off - whether it's Shekou or Fuyong. I don't know how long it may take for foreigners entering those ports, but it shouldn't be bad at all.

But the easiest way is to take the 1pm Turbojet direct from Kowloon to Fuyong.

rkkwan:

You mentioned in Feb in another Shenzhen airport post, that the Trans-Island company has limo at $1000HKD.

"Companies like Trans-Island have that service, and there are other private individuals doing that. According to my uncle last fall, current price is likely less than HK$1,000. Your hotel concierge may know how to book one. Cicerone may know as well."

I looked at their website, and maybe I'm reading it wrong: their price 1-way going from Kowloon Peninsula to SZX is $2500HKD.

Do you know of any company that offers limo at ~$1000HKD per car? I did a search on the net and came up with nothing.

johnmango - Trans-Island is a real company with overhead and advertisement and everything.

The ~$1,000 private cars are - how to describe it? - private individuals with dual driver licenses and invest in a Chinese license plate to run a bootleg business.

I don't know of the numbers to call, but plenty of Hong Kong people do it. So, ask around locally, and you may be able to find them.
