help with tailors in thailand. PLEASE!

on our last visit we had some clothes made in BKK and were not that impressed with the quality SO this time I thought I would ask any of you out there for some sugestions. this time we are to visit BKK, chaing Mai, Chaing Rai finishing up at Phuket. If any of you know which in your opinion is the best place to have jackets and suchlike made we would be most grateful for your help. thanks a bunch.

Bangkok is the best place to have clothes made. There are many dozens of excellent tailors. (None of them will promise 24 hour service.) One of the best predictors of satisfaction is having three or more fittings. Also look closely at the quality of the fabrics. If the fabrics available consist mainly of synthetics, go elsewhere. You really want 100% cottons, silks or wools or wool/silk blends. Fine woolens, for instance, have the fabris specs woven into the finished edge.

Are you looking for men's or women's clothing? You mention jackets. Give us some ideas of what you want to have made and we can offer suggestions.

I have lived in Bangkok for quite awhile and would recommend two places:
#1 Victor Custom Tailor 1311 Charoen Krung Road (Bangrank corner Silom).

This is a small shop with lots of material bolts to select from. Many are top quality wool and cashmere but there are all types. It is about a block or two from the Oriental Hotel. Owner Mr Noi phone 02-234-1615. Open everyday (I think). Price of suits from 2,500-8,000 baht (USD $60-200) depending on your selection of materials. Most mens 2 pc suits average about $100. Has been in business for over 30 years, good English, has both men and ladies tailor, all work done on premises.

Suits can be done in 24 hrs however best to get at least one fitting which would require 48-72 hours. I have never had a "24 hour suit" done there but Khun Noi says he can do it.

#2 Landmark Hotel Sukhumvit road near Soi 4 Jass Tailor (not Jazz), Basement
Owner Kenny Sorry no phone number.

However this is in a major hotel so you can call the hotel direct and ask for the number.

I have heard very good reports on Mens jackets and suits. Womens' suit results have not been glowing.

the key to good results is many fittings and don't rush them...also you often get what you pay for...don't take the bundled specials: 2 suits, 3 shirts, 3 slacks, 2 ties for $125....
