Thanks folks for the well wishes. Thai Air hasn't called me yet, and I was just too busy to call them this weekend. Happy Travels!

Guess what? Their ad on WSJ has switched to their "new" LAX-BKK non-stop service today!

I posted a carry-on bag question on the airlines forum. No answers so far, but wondered if you had heard anything about several of the major airlines downsizing the sizes of carry-on bags? I don't carry on anything larger than my computer tote, but the idea of requiring smaller carry-ons sounds good to me. (sorry for those of you who carry everything but the kitchen sink) Maybe you can take a look at my question on the airlines forum.

I hope the 22-inch, carry-on suitcases are still allowed because in that suitcase I pack what I need for survival in case my main suitcase is lost and I'm gone for 3 weeks.
I can write a book on lost luggage. I've had luggage lost for as long as nearly 3 weeks...not on Thai Air however. Happy Travels!

I tried to call Thai Air yesterday, Saturday, and they were closed. I thought that they had half day hours on Saturdays, but maybe that has changed. Happy Travels!

FYI, the planes now used on the BKK - LAX route are B777 - NOT A340's. I checked when I made my booking. I think Thai is currently trying to offload the A340's because they're real gas-guzzlers.

TG doesn't have any 777-200LR, which will be the only Boeing capable of doing LAX-BKK non-stop.

The non-stop flights remain 340-500.

Yup, the planes on the nonstop are now and will continue to be A340-500s, not 777-200ERs (through January, at least.)

Thai couldn't sell the former, so they are holding on to them.

THERE ARE NO THAI NON-STOP FLIGHTS TO THE US. The only flight available for BKK - LAX stops in Japan, and it uses a B777. I'm absolutely positive about this.

Michael - Why don't you check some sources like thaiairways.com, itasoftware.com, etc. TG794/795 BKK-LAX is currently 5 days a week (no flights Mon and Wed), non-stop on the 345.

BKK-JFK was indeed cancelled.

I always deal directly with Thai. The direct flight to LAX has been canceled, effective Oct. 31. It is no more. I'm traveling to the US on 6 November, and the only flight available on any day is a one-stop flight using a B777.

Michael - The non-stop was cancelled, but it had been restored. Which is why filmwill bumped this thread up on 10/10/08.

And like I said, just yesterday, I saw Thai's "new" ad about their "new" non-stop LAX-BKK flights in the newspaper. A week ago, they were still advertising for their "then-new" LAX-KIX service.

Michael, rkkwan is correct. I'm afraid you're mistaken. Yes, the nonstop was originally schedule to be moved to a 1-stop at KIX starting 10/26, but last week, Thai relented and kept the nonstop through January. I've already received my reconfirmation on TG795/794 (which was supposed to be TG796/797) from both Thai Air and United.

If you call Thai Air (or check any other air-related message boards, e.g., FlyerTalk, A.net), I think you'll find additional confirmation on that.

Michael, I suggest you check your reservations again. You will see that they have been changed back to TG 794/795. And if you had seat assignments, most likely those have been changed to.

It's a good thing you stumbled on to this post. Otherwise you would have shown up 12 hours early for your flight to LAX.

Yup, color me clueless. There's been absolutely no announcement of this change, but Thai just called me to say my flights have been changed. While it's nice to have a direct flight, I now have to change my connecting flights on United, which you can't do on-line (and which I'm sure will cost money), and I have to reserve a hotel at LAX for the night, since I'll clear customs way too late to get a flight to Portland.

As Guen says, SCREAM!!!

This is all just too unbelieveable! I was so looking forward to "someday" taking that non-stop from LAX to BKK on Thai business class (or royal silk, or whatever the name). Sounds like it isn't gonna' happen.

Good luck to all of you who are attempting to take this journey in the near future... I hope it all works out. So, guenmai, are you now in premium economy or in business class?????

Carol..I have NO idea if they even have me still on the plane. They haven't called and I've been too busy with other stuff like going off on my cable/phone/internet service which is a FAR worse situation than the Thai Air situation. I'll have to spend a good hour and a half drafting a letter to them. It's just one battle after the other and I'm SICK OF IT. Plus, I need to fly all the way to my dad, this weekend, for a day and a half and then home and back to work the next day.
I was on the phone with the cable/phone/internet people over half an hour last night and then after furiously hanging up, checked the forum,to relax only to find more on this Thai Air situation. That's when I typed the "Scream". Happy Travels!

The flight is non-stop again, and Premium Economy is available - I booked it last week for LAX-BKK-LAX in December (and saved $1000 over what EVA wanted for their Elite Class!).

So the aircraft is the A340-500, with 3 classes of seating.

At least for today...
