Help need advice! PLanning on traveling to VietNam begin of month having second thoughtsin light of attacks of 9/11 and war situation.Has anyone returned from region?

Do Americans need to worry for saftey? an you really enjoy yourself or do you need to keep on constant guard? Is there any Anti-American setiments detected?

I am not a novice traveler just feeling a bit nervous and have saftey concerns all feedback would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Mr girlfriend is Vietnamese and she and I have an apartment in Ho Chi Minh City. I also have a partner in HCMC. Both have said everything is quiet and normal. There is nothing to worry about in VN except for pickpockets, of course. I'm headed back there on Wednesday 10/17 myself for two months. If you're in HCMC, try the Pho Hoa restaurant on Pasteur Street for the best pho in VN and some excellent atmosphere, all for less than $5 per person including your drink.

I will be leaving for Vietnam this weekend 10/13 and have not heard of any unrest or potential threats of terrorism from my relatives in Vietnam.

I was in Halong Bay only for 1 day on a cruise but it seemed safe and had no problems as a Canadian.

..returned 1 week ago after 5 week trip North and South. You have no problems over there I can assure you. I am from UK but was with 3 from US - we all felt more relaxed than in our home countries! Fantastic people, food, culture. Enjoy.
My next trip on 15 December to Java - now that's got me thinking!!
