However, Vietnam trains are not especially know for departing at their scheduled times so you could be waiting around. We generally use teh train for travelling through Vietnam and is not uncommon for trains to depart or arrive late.
Also be aware that police often close down access to train street for tourists but as far as I am aware it is currently possible. My nieces were there a few months back. There are a number of cafes where you can sit and have a coffee and watch them go by.
