Great hotel deals in Bangkok this winter

The Royal Orchid Sheraton has a rate from 3,500thb, room only, in January.. and also the Tower room rates under 5,000 including lots of perks. I also found a good rate at the Peninsula in January.

Hope someone can enjoy some of these discounts.

Also, if you have a late flight out, ask about their 24 hour rates.

The Towers rooms for under 5000 baht is a great deal - breakfast, evening cocktails and canapes and desserts, and some laundry (3 pieces per person per day) is included in your rate.

>>>I also found a good rate at the Peninsula in January.<<<

Indeed you did, lin, and warm greetings once again. Well done, and if do end up at that cherished property, savour your Pen times, on the 'wrong' side of the river. I've always loved my business travel and leisure moments at the Peninsula, from her earliest days on. At the time and to this day. she remains a most delightful change of pace from the Oriental, Shangri-La and ROS. As noted before, I can't wait to return with the better half for Valentine's Day and ~ two days of meetings.

Now, in keeping with the spirit of the timely title of your opening post, will add a promotion involving my current main BKK business travel hotel, the St. Regis. Much more to be found on the hotel's website, as well as the general Starwood 'Unbeatable Thailand' promo. Since my first business stay last June, that property has never failed to deliver in all areas, including one of the most convenient BKK work commutes ever for me.

Finally, a recent promo concerning the Shangri-La, Bangkok. (Including a targeted email involving separate offer for this occasionally frequent Golden Circle programme guest in BKK and Hong Kong.) More info for all, via SL site.

Thanks again, lin, all the best with your planning and fine hotel (and airline) deals to all,

macintosh (robert)

Adding an illustrious and all-time sentimental Bangkok hotel to this list (and thanks again for starting thread, lin) : The Four Seasons.

Received an email from said property not too many days back offering rates not far from those quoted above for the ROS. Perhaps worth venturing over to the FS website.

Can assure you from personal experience, the FS Bangkok is most special. Commenced staying with her for work back in the day when she was known as The Regent. My first 'proper' Bangkok business travel hotel and first evening, thought I'd gone to heaven. Great staff and what a fine lap pool. (Like to think I help entice another fine fodorite, 'ekscrunchy', into staying at - and loving - the property.)

As previously noted, my primary BKK work hotel these days is the St. Regis and wouldn't you know, they are rather close neighbours. (And suspect I'll have more St. Regis updates before too many more days.)

As always, wherever you stay, savour your tender Thai times. Warm wishes to all from warm SE Asia and enjoy your holiday, lin.

These discounts are time-limited. Go to the websites to see the dates they are effective. In September you should be able to get great rates in Bangkok as it is off-season. If any of these rates are good through Sept, go ahead and book. Otherwise, wait a few months.

Warm greetings yankeetraveller,

As noted, Bangkok hotel promos often have various time limitations / stipulations. Which brings up yet another recent promotion concerning the always satisfying Shangri-La : stay two evenings, third evening gratis. Much more to be gleaned on the SL's site. Fine place that has never disappointed for work and pleasure.

And, a heartfelt thank you to the Peninsula, her staff and some wondrous friends for yet another joyous Valentine's celebration a few evenings back. All too brief (obliged to fly back home to Singapore on Wednesday for work commitments) and most memorable. 'Our' special suite, already reserved for next V-Day - and Loy Krathong. Great traditions, riverside.

Have fun with the planning yankeetraveller and early and warm weekend wishes to all from warm Singapore. (Get to inspect some fine aircraft shortly via the always enjoyable Singapore Airshow - including a special SQ bird.)

Enjoy,

robert

Thanks Robert,

Based on your information, I have just booked the 2 + 1 deal in a deluxe riverveiw balcony room for thr start of our trip in April. I just have to get confirmation from them that we can have both of our children in the room.

I have always wanted to stay in one of the 5 star riverfront properties but really couldn't justify the expense. This will give us a taste of what we have been missing out on.

I like the fact that we can still cancel if we find something else. I am used to the pre-paid booking sites that dont allow for such flexibilty and this deal is still cheaper than what they offer.

You are most welcome Shane; well done. Do hope the Shangri-La stay becomes a reality for you and your family. Very special place for work and leisure; one of my all-time favourites. Wondrous staff and a couple of cherished friends.

(Must confess I'm a bit envious of your impending visit. Until the previously noted St. Regis came along with some irresistible corporate rates - and a more convenient work commute - that SL was a sweet slice of BKK riverside business travel heaven.)

Suspect this offer will have you in the Main Wing? Almost all of my SL business stays have entailed the Krungthep Wing, but rest assured you will be in the hands of truly fine employees. (For years, the SL has rotated its staff between the K and Main Wings; really special people.)

As for things to do for free (or modest sum) will suggest taking a little cross-river 'cruise' with some fine gentlemen who man the Peninsula's various boats. As of this past Valentine's Day celebration at the property, those good guys and friends remain quite the wealth of humour and knowledge. Once arriving upon the Pen's shores, disembark and enjoy some fine flavours of ice cream found inside at the small 'newsstand'. Another cherished place.

Another free option is venturing over to the Mandarin Oriental around 10am for a view of the Authors' Lounge (and special library). Mind you, the lounge is a frequent venue for weddings and other private affairs, but if your timing is right, you'll be able to experience a unique place with relative quietude. I've always so loved and appreciated the MO during those moments.

In keeping with the spirit with the opening post, will mention another Bangkok hotel development : Starwood recently announced that the Royal Orchid Sheraton will be downgraded from a Category 3 to Cat. 2. So, a fine hotel is now an even better value, in my humble opinion. It's been quite some time since I've stayed at the ROS for work, but always found each and every stay most productive and enjoyable. Great staff, those lounge benefits and 'my' special lodging on the 25th floor. Hope some of you can partake.

Have fun, enjoy the SL and early weekend wishes to all from festive and active Singapore. Last week, another sensational Singapore Airshow and this weekend, some rather attractive and talented female professional golfers are in the city-state for a tournament. Man, I love living and working in this place. Come on over some time, fodorites. (And you know the airline to fly.)

Enjoy,

robert

Robert,

If you are ever in need of an assistant, please look me up. Your lifestyle sounds wonderful.

Thanks for the tips. This will be our 13th or 14th trip to Thailand and we are yet to set foot in either the Pen or the Oriental, so we may follow your suggestions. It's time to see how the "other-half" live!

Shane, good for you for your booking. Did you say you will be in BKK for the big birthday bash??? Hoping so! Would love to finally say 'hello' to another fodorite. The exact date is 23rd, but we MAY party on the 22nd.... we have to find out if Tawandang has their full show production going on a Monday night. What about you, Robert (macintish)

Hi Carol,

Unfortunately, due to work committments, we can't be in Bangkok until the 26th. If you are still going to be there and are free on the 27th or 28th, we would love to meet up.

Warm greetings Carol and early congrats on returning to the Land of Smiles.

As always, thanks for your years of supporting the Thai economy, as well as visiting our fine home of Singapore not too far back. Any chance of return to SIN? If so, more than pleased to offer hotel, dining and shopping suggestions -- and J-Class BKK-SIN flight recommendations with those sensational Singapore Girls.

For some time, my Bangkok business travel schedule has been rather variable, so as of this Singapore morning, the April BKK meetings are the 10th and 11th, then flying back home to SIN before the Thai Songkran festivities commence later that week. I'm confident we'll meet up at some point (and am quite certain our paths once crossed at the UA NRT RCC; I was on my way to the ANA lounge and a later SQ flight).

Speaking of Songkran - and keeping this BKK hotel deal thread on topic - will pass along word of the Four Seasons' current Songkran offer. Stay three evenings and receive access to the hotel's most serene executive lounge, amongst other enticements. Much more to be found on the 4S website. Such a great property.

Have fun Carol, thanks for the kind words Shane (I have a good feeling you and your family will be savouring some fine times, riverside) and warm wishes and hotel deals to all,

robert

Hi Shane,
Didn't catch your question until now ... sorry. I'll be in BKK until May 1. There may be a trip to Samui, but not sure yet. Hopefully we can meet up.

Hi Carol,

You pick a day and time and we will keep it free.

We have no plans for the Bangkok leg of the journey apart from Chatuchak on the Sunday and probably wont lock anything else in until the week before we arrive.

I have a booking at the Shangrila, but I am still debating if we would rather be more central. The Novotel Platinum has got my interest as we can get the 4 of us in one room.

Warm greetings again Shane and hope your April Bangkok holiday is still on schedule. If not the Shangri-La this venture, perhaps in future. Very special place, staff and friends. For what it's worth, spent two work-related evenings with one of her sisters earlier this week: the Island Shangri-La in Hong Kong. Fine property that has never disappointed for meetings. I just know you and other Fodorites would enjoy the property.

Left Hong Kong via TG607 (used miles to fly F for free and it was so gratifyingly 'smooth as silk') to BKK for meetings which concluded last evening. Stayed at the St Regis - once again - which brings up more potential Bangkok hotel deals for all of you: the property is currently offering various promotions, both long and short-term. Much more to be found on the St. Regis website. To date, the SR is proving to be most convenient and comfortable for BKK business travel.

This most recent business stay at the St. Regis included some interesting discussions with the fine SR management and staff regarding a certain Siam property down by the river. (Website : thesiamhotel dot com) Enormous potential -- and 'soft opening' rates, in keeping with the spirit of this thread. (Best begin saving.)

Here's to good Bangkok hotel deals to all. Signing off from Suvarnabhumi (guess the airline lounge) and finally flying back home to sweet Singapore after a fortnight of 'on the road'.

Warm weekend wishes,

robert
