Gpanda Update
K & I had dinner with the pandas this evening... K treated them to a moroccan chicken dish.
Sadly Andy has slipped since we last saw him in late Feb. His mind still works pretty well, but it drifts a bit.
He still has a sense of humor, albeit diminished.
He continues to be very tired and spends most of his days in his chair listening to books or watching tv. He does not leave the house that much anymore, although he can go to the hospital to see doctors and a few other errands. He sight remains limited.
Beth is holding up but is now his full time caregiver. Her work has been put on hold for now.
He continues to be interested in travel stories, but his travel days are over. He does nothing on the computer, no emails or searches.
He has an emotional side which we had not seen before and it overcomes him occasionally.
He speaks mostly in a monotone.
Keep them in your thoughts please.

Bob, your updates, even though not painting as rosy an outlook as we would like to read, are very important to this community of travellers. Thank you to you and K for keeping us informed and for taking time to get the situation first hand. Of course, I am keeping Andy and Beth in my thoughts and prayers.

I had been wondering how he was doing; thank you for this update--difficult as it is to read. Andy doesn't know me, but his spirit is one so many have responded to and care about. He is in my--and so many others--thoughts and hopes.

The loss of Andy's big heart and wonderful sense of humor from this space has been quite a blow to all of us who have enjoyed his on-line camaraderie. The loss in daily life to Beth and his dear friends is infinitely more difficult.
Our hearts go out in equal measure to the one suffering illness and to the caretaker and intimates whose pain, while of a different sort, is equally great.
As always, if there is anything any of us can DO, please advise. Otherwise, thank you for keeping us updated. We will continue to hold all of you -- Andy, Beth, Karen and Bob -- in our thoughts. And we will continue to miss Andy here on the Asia board where he has helped, charmed, and entertained so many of us. If he ever feels up to checking in, we are here.

This was a difficult read. I know it must have been difficult to report. Bob and Karen, you are true friends and we all miss the back and forth snarky banter you and Andy treated us all to.
I know how many people here, some who don't visit the Asia Fodors Board on a very regular basis will be greatly saddened to read this and wish there was something we could do to help.
Beth and Andy, just know that so very many people from all over the world, almost every continent, have been sending our love, prayers, and hope for a miracle for you. We lit candles by the dozens and felt a strong connection a virtual linking hands and holding you in our thoughts as you fight your fight.
We will continue to hold you in our thoughts and prayers.

I had a nice chat with Andy on the phone today. In spite of it all, Andy tries to remain upbeat. Unfortunately, he hasn't felt like doing some of the things he's always enjoyed. We talked about the Asia Board, and he said he'd like to get back on Fodors - maybe in the next week. I let him know that people here miss him and are sending him our best hopes and wishes.
