Gifts for Thais?

We will be in BKK for a few weeks in nov to celebrate our anniversary, and we are planning to visit the Deaf school( both my wife and I are sign language interpreters and would like to bring some of the kids at the school some small gifts from the states that are not available in BKK. Anyone have any ideas on what we could bring? Thanks! JeffreyandApril

Books are reasonably expensive in Bkk so books by American authors might be an idea...tshirts...baseball hats...all these things are available in Bkk but very American looking ones might be a novelty. Games esp educational ones could be a gift if u have place - few shops in Bkk carry them and they are pretty exp.

there used to be a "coloring" book, only you painted in it with water and colors came out on the page...don't know if they still have them....

They would probably appreciate Books but please remember that they would want books in the Thai Language. I would suggest you visit and see the age groups and then go to a large department store and buy a large supply on Thai books, coloring books and game books, they are very cheap and you should be able to fill a whole box, then you can take this back. pencils and others writing pens are cheap anyway, I would not suggest candy as this is available already and too many children are starting to eat candies which are not good for them. I think Thai books is a good idea, you will find many prices for 20 to 50 cents. Do not offer cash!
