Full Bloom in Tokyo

To all the lucky Fodorites who are in Japan now I am truly jealous lol. If you have ever been in Japan during full bloom cherry blossom season....it is the best time to be there

To those who haven't been yet....what are you waiting for?

Aloha!

I haven't been to the places mentioned in the japan-guide.com report but to me they are getting close to full here in Kyoto. I went by the Hirano Shrine yesterday on the bus and the ones I saw looked quite open and much more so than when I walked through two days ago....

We walked along the Philosopher's Walk yesterday morning. As Mara says, it's pretty close to full bloom. It was breathtakingly beautiful.

I just updated my profile picture to display a photo from yesterday.

We were there last year for the height of the sakura and I also experienced the magic the first time I went to Japan in the 80s. Both visits were for for work, so the blossoms were a serendipitous bonus. Now I don't want to visit at any other time.

"The perfect blossom is a rare thing. You could spend your life looking for one, and it would not be a wasted life."

I am so jealous but happy for you all in Japan right now. Gambatte!
