Four Seasons Chiang Mai - Rooms
I am in the middle of planning my honeymoon trip to Thailand next June, and we have finally decided on our hotel selections.
After going back and forth between the Four Seasons and the Mandarin Oriental, we have finally decided on the FS. The MO is just too new and I have heard about quite a few small problems that made us decide against it.
I have read all the posts on this board about the pros and cons of the FS, but we have decided that it is exactly what we are looking for, so I am not looking for advice about other options. This is definitely our choice.
Anyway, to my question - which room do we want at the FS? I know we will go with either a mountain view or a rice paddy view, but I am trying to get a specific idea about which exact room we should try to get. I finally found a sketch of the resort (http://www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com/b...i/fourseasons/), so I can see where the rooms are located, but I don't know which building is which type of room.
We are looking for an upper floor room that is very private.
Anyone who has stayed here - can you tell me which exact room you stayed in and how private it was? Did you notice which rooms were the most remote and private? I have searched and searched to find specific room details but cannot find them. The only thing I saw was that room 802 is great, but I don't even know what type of room that is!
I know this is a very specific question, but I really want to try to get the perfect room for our honeymoon.
Thanks!

I think that you should e-mail the hotel, being very specific about what you want and ask for their help. Of course, tell them it is your honeymoon. Communicating directly with them should be the best way to ensure you actually get what you want.

Bridgeandtunnelclub.com is my husband's and my website, and the photos from the FS Chiang Mai are from our honeymoon last May. It's such a fantastic resort!
Definitely talk to the staff as the last poster suggested. If nothing else, you'll be greeted with champagne and other goodies.
All the villas are very private - just one garden view room downstairs and either a mountain or rice paddy room upstairs. May is not high season, but I can tell you that we didn't see any other guests anywhere near our room during our stay. Upstairs rooms have private decks that have shades you can draw for privacy, but we never needed to use them.
The grounds are so lush that you can't really see across pathways much.
I don't remember what our room number was, but I believe that all the upstairs rooms have a large bedroom, sitting area, large bathroom, and private deck with full dining table and daybed. You can confirm that with FS.
Good luck and have a great trip!

Thanks! You gave me some info I can definitely work with. So, I am assuming that if we book a Mountainview or a Paddyview, we will get an upstairs room.
I actually did send an email to the hotel a few weeks ago asking about specific rooms and which were more secluded, and whether we could book a specific room number. They never wrote me back...

I just returned from the FS Chiang Mai and we stayed in a Rice Terrace view room which was on the lower level. I don't think the lower vs. upper level drives the type of view. We were in Room 1604, which was the last unit out by the cooking school. Each of the rooms has an outdoor sala with a dining table & daybed. The view was terrific and very private. At first I was disappointed because we were on the lower level but it did not end up mattering. The salas are all configured for maximum privacy so you don't really notice the others while you are outside. I would highly recommend the Rice Terrace view, definitely worth the additional money.

The rice terrace rooms are lovely. Did a site visit there and saw a lower floor room. THe nice thing is you can see the animal/bird life on the rice close up.
As this is your honeymoon you may wish to consider including a two/three night stay at their new Four Seasons Tented Camp up in Chiang Rai opening Jan/Feb 2006. Great for a honeymoon.
