Malaysia Airlines flies from Penang to
both airports in the Kuala Lumpur area.
I would think it best to get tickets well in advance since all of these flights that I have been on are usually full. Taxi is the best way to get around
KL and they are very cheap.

I am flying with Malaysia Airlines from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi, and the from Langkawi to Penang.

From Penang you could fly with Malaysia Airlines to KL or with Cathay Pacific which stops in KL on the way to Hong Kong. I am going on to HK so I chose Cathay Pacific

I am already booked...and I used ticketplanet.com. Not only am I booked, but I had my tickets in hand in two days via Fed Express.

They booked all my flights for the entire trip from New York to Hong Kong to Bali to Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi to Penang to Hong Kong to New York.

My trip is in October and November.

I have flown with Cathay Pacific across the pacific in both 98 and 99 and have always been most pleased.

e-mail if you want some details about price.

Michael
Thanks for an informative response. Ticketplanet.com has some good deals on it.
