You can find your answer here. Just plug in your dates like you are making a reservation. Bangkor Air is the only airline that flies those two routes.

BKK-REP is 206 miles. On the Boeing 717, they schedule for about 55-60 minutes. I think actual airtime can be as low as 35 minutes.

On the ATR72, they schedule for 70-75 minutes. Actual airtime about 45-50 minutes.

LPQ is a lot longer. 439 miles on the ATR72. Schedule times are 2:00 BKK-LPQ and 1:40 LPQ-BKK. Subtract about 20 minutes for actual flight time.

thanks so much!
I called Bankok air and they said that the 3 legs of my trip would be approx $270.
they only fly direct from SR to LP on mon, thurs and sat however. the other days you would stop in Vientien with a 6 hr layover.

Get the direct flight. Six hours is too long to waste in SEA.

I did not think Bangkok Air flew SR to LP. I know they do the reverse. $270 is correct if using the Discovery Pass. To that add $17 in insurance/fuel charges for each leg and the airport tax.

gpanda: I agree 100%. We just want to get there.

you can buy your tickets over the phone or you can book it when you get there but the chances of the flights being full are real. So, I guess we'll figure out how many days in each place and book it before we leave so we can plan a little better.

Scotters: I talked to Bangkok air directly and they told me that they flew from Seim Reap to Luang Prabang direct 3 days a week...unless I misunderstood?

I hope that's right cuz I don't want to fly back to BKK to catch another flight.

The REP - LPQ - REP flights are on Lao Airline, and it looks like they are via Pakse, not non-stop. Flight time is schedules 3 hours 45 minutes.

Not sure what to think....I just called Bangkok air back again and they told me that they DO fly from Seim Reap to Luang Prabang non stop 3 days a week.

DISCOVERY AIRPASS
BKK to SR is about 1 hr.
from siem reap to Luang Prabang is 3 hrs. 20 minutes (4 hrs. travel time)
direct flights on mon, thurs and sat
other days there is a stop in Vientiane
$270 plus taxes pp for 3 segments/flights approx $90. for each segment $343. total approx
other days there is a 6 hr layover in vientiane
I spoke to Pamela the 1st time and Sherry the second.

Note that direct and non-stop are two different things. direct involves a stop but not a flight change (and typically not a plane change). Three hours and twenty minutes includes a stop (no way is it that far!). But it sounds like a good connection. On the other days, it sounds like there is a connection (so not a direct flight) in Vientiane - you have to get off teh plane and change to another plane (and flight number) after a 6 hour layover.

I'm not sure then. They don't show flights at all Siem Reap to Luang Prabang on their website, but Lao does, via Pakse. It might be via Pakse during low season and non-stop high season? When are you going? I'm fairly confident that it's a Lao flight though in any case.

Kathie makes a good point about the time required...it's not far enough to take over 3 hours nonstop...so I'm guessing, like Kathie, that it's a direct flight that stops in Pakse along the way like Lao Airlines has on their website. The sure way to check is to ask Bangkok Air exactly the flight numbers, who operates it, times of departure and arrival and stops.

jasper, I guess I'd say I expect they are right about the flight number and the arrival and departure times. The issue is whether it is a direct flight (which has a stop) or a non-stop flight. Given that the total flight time is much more time than it takes to fly from SR to LP, I'm guessing that there has been a miscommunication about direct vs. non-stop. Since the times will work out for you, it really doesn't matter which it is.

OK...I just called them and got their Indian call center...not very easy to communicate with them there. There is no answer at their 3 Japan locations.

Siem Reap to Luang Prabang
Option 1: Connect through Bangkok using Bangkok Airways flights. Uses 2 coupons for Discovery Airpass.
Option 2: REP 9:15 VTE 11:45/12:30 LPQ 1:10 stop in Vientienne on Lao Airlines with also a stop in Pakse it looks to me, but rep says no. Uses 1 coupon she said.
Option 3: REP 2:55 LPQ 5:35 on Lao Airliines, rep says it's a direct flight and can't understand my question about stopping somewhere. She did confirm it is on Lao Airlines though. Uses one coupon.

That makes it easy. From Lao Airlines' website QV523 stops in Pakse enroute to Luang Prabang. http://www.laoairlines.com/timetable_new_i.html

It really seems as if the Bangkok Airways Indian call center doesn't understand direct vs. non-stop.

Thanks for the help with this you all.

The Indian call center people are all very nice but it makes me a little nervous that they aren't sure what they're selling. (or maybe I wasn't asking the right questions)

anyway, it looks like the stop is Pakse (30 minutes is what I was told)

thanks again!!!!!

A number of people have reported communications difficulties with the Indian call center. I expect there is a language issue re: direct vs. non-stop.

When it's time to buy your pass and book your flights do it when the US call center is open.
